Acute Medicine Consutlant Location: South West England Hours: 10 PA’s Salary: £79, 860 - £107, 668 per annum depending upon skills & experience Relocation Package: UP TO £4000 Company description: Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was established in October 2013, following the integration of Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. The Trust provides a comprehensive portfolio of high quality acute healthcare services to a critical mass of more than c.526,000 people living across the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and North Bexley. We are responsible for NHS services at University Hospital Lewisham, Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich and in a number of community settings throughout Lewisham. In addition, the trust provides some services at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. The Trust employs more than 6,000 staff which makes us one of the biggest employers in South East London. Job description: Acute Medicine At Queen Elizabeth Hospital the medical take is divided between the Acute Physicians and the Acute Frailty team, with a consultant from each specialty on-call for admissions each day. The division of patients between each team is based upon the Bournemouth Frailty Scale; currently around two thirds of admissions are under acute medicine and one third under frailty. For the Acute Medical patients an acute physician admits all cases between 9am and 5pm Monday to Thursday. The acute physician will continuously review all patients admitted until 5pm. An on-call general physician then takes over to review patients admitted from 5pm to 9pm. The average number of admissions at the present time is 40-50 per 24 hours for acute medicine and frailty combined. Ambulatory Emergency Care This is an exciting time at our Trust with regards to the development of Ambulatory Emergency Care. A brand new and bespoke £750,000 Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) was opened in August 2017, directly opposite the AMU. The new unit has multiple clinic rooms, acute assessment bays with piped oxygen supply, recliners for IV therapies and also a dedicated procedure room. Duties & Responsibilities: The acute physicians will spend the majority of their direct clinical care, and supporting professional activity time, working on the Acute Medical Unit and short stay medical unit Direct the management of patients, assess patients & perform practical procedures Teach both junior medical & other staff Attend multidisciplinary meetings Take part in the governance activity of the department, participate in the management and administration of the service and liaise with other professionals both within and outside the trust as required. Skills & Experience: MRCP postgraduate qualification Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting Ability to work effectively within a team environment & on own initiative Broad based training and wide experience of acute and general medicine.
