Overview

We are looking for an experienced Housing Adviser to work within our busy housing needs and advice team. You will be advising clients on all aspects of the housing legislation and conducting interviews to assess clients under prevention and relief duties in line with the Homeless Reduction Act. You will be proactive in finding solutions to prevent homelessness, providing specialist housing advice and carrying out homeless enquiries and issuing section 184 final decision letters. Your new role The role is to provide a comprehensive and specialist housing advice service to support clients that are homeless of threatened with homelessness. You will need a thorough knowledge and understanding of the housing legislation and demonstrable experience of the Homeless Reduction Act. You will conduct client interviews, assess an applicants housing need, complete Personal Housing Plans, advise on the legality of S.21 and S.8 notices, assess clients under prevention and relief duties, issue S.184 final decision letters and provide temporary accommodation where necessary. You will work with clients to resolve their housing problems and strive to prevent homelessness whenever possible. You will work very closely with external partners and organisations as well as internal colleagues including the Private rent Scheme, Pathways Officers and the Debt Advice Team. You will have excellent IT skills and preferably have experience of using Locata. What you'll need to succeed You will be a great people person and be able to build relationships quickly and demonstrate an empathetic and non judgemental approach to customers in extremely stressful circumstances. As an experienced housing adviser, you will be a great communicator and have a comprehensive knowledge of the housing legislation and the Homeless Reduction Act. You will have excellent interviewing skills and be able to assess client's situations and provide a frontline service offering advice and a range of housing options. You will have proven negotiation skills and be able to negotiate with landlords, families and internal and external partners to prevent homelessness or help clients to find alternative accommodation to resolve their housing issues.
