Overview

Acorn Recruitment is searching for a Machinist / Mechanical Fitter to join our client, a rapid response electrical and mechanical engineering company based in Merseyside. Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the purpose of the role is to primarily carry out machining duties on various parts of mechanical equipment "jobbing" or bespoke machining in an industrial service environment. Secondary, ability to carry out fitting duties of mechanical equipment. Key responsibilities include: Perform sets up, and operate conventional machine tools as required. Design methods and standard operating procedures, where none exist. Read and interpret all drawings/sketches, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Demonstrated ability to effectively set up all, or at least most, of the following machines: I.D./O.D. Grinder, Turret Lathe, Radial Drill, and Miller. Ability to hold close tolerances and conduct component inspections. Working knowledge of tool geometry and application. Working knowledge of effects of feeds and speeds. Ability to perform with a minimum of direct supervision. Other duties will include: Dismantle, reassemble and testing of pumps, fans, and associated equipment. Inspection of equipment for damage and evidence of wear & tear. Carrying out mechanical assembly of rotating equipment. Applicants must have a strong aptitude for mechanical engineering. Completion of a machinist apprentice program preferable, but not essential. Must have experience in carrying out machining/fitting duties to rotating equipment including: Motors, Pumps, Fans etc. Hours of work: 8:30am - 4:30pm Salary is competitive and negotiable dependant on experience to offer.
