Job Description We are looking for a Head of Technical Accounting to join our Finance Centre of Excellence in Liverpool. This role is fundamental in ensuring that the accounting policies are compliant and consistently applied across the Group. Accounting policies should be appropriate, documented and compliance should be monitored across the Global Finance Centre and the wider Group. This role will play a key part in significant transactions that are material to the Group and will be required to provide critical technical accounting advice often on an urgent adhoc basis. This role is responsible for ensuring that the Group and solo entity published financial statements are compliant with all relevant accounting standards. Role Responsibilities Responsible for re-launching and maintaining a comprehensive Group Finance Manual. This should be interactive enabling self service across the Group. Plays a key role on significant transactions that are material to the Group, providing sound technical accounting advice informing presentation to the Group CFO and the Group Audit Committee. Liaises with external auditors ensuring timely approval of the technical accounting treatment of material transaction on a timely basis in advance of the critical reporting period. Represent RSA at appropriate external bodies (e.g. ABI). Build and chair a global 'Technical Accounting Group'. This should include representation across the Group. Empower this global group to manage technical queries and to drive technical training and capability in the Global Finance Centre and the wider Group. For example: o Implement a technical accounting communications plan such as technical forums, quarterly updates etc o Ensure training materials are readily available and accessible o Maintain a technical 'library' of technical papers supporting the Group's significant accounting judgements. Is proactive in the identification of upcoming technical accounting changes and provides an impact assessment for the Group. Support the acceleration of the reporting process by managing the production of the proforma financial statements pre year-end. The Individual To be successful in this role you must be; - Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA) - Ideally with over 5 years' of post qualification Group technical accounting experience ideally gained in a multi-national Insurance plc entity - Able to build profile externally by being part of technical accounting forums / bodies.
