Overview

Your new company Your new employer is the UK's leading Charity retailer. With 750 stores UK wide, the retail arm of this organisation creates £30m towards research and support for those battling serious health problems. As the retail arm provides such a large proportion of funding research and support, the charity takes a serious approach on maximising profits and in turn funding for their cause, and have always ensured they have an effective property team working for them. This team is a highly commercial and competent team of building surveyors, estates surveyors and and asset managers, who ensure the retail portfolio remains profitable and operational across the country, and due to the expansion of their portfolio they are looking for additional support in the form of a full time chartered building surveyor. Your new role As a member of the retail development team you will report directly to the Head of Property, following a programme of capital projects planned for the leased properties and new acquisitions. You will be responsible for the South Eastern region of the retail portfolio for any fit-out/refurbishment projects, with duties including but not limited to pre-acquisition surveys (taking into account any defects and determining required works as well as identifying liabilities for said works) creating AutoCAD plans for store fit-outs, producing specifications and project scopes, providing contract administration and project managing from initial survey to snagging and final handover. You will work remotely visiting stores throughout the South East, from Brighton up to Hertfordshire and into London, you will have the option to work from either the central London, Surrey, or Hertfordshire office if convenient. What you'll need to succeed In order to succeed in this role it is crucial that you hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent in Building Surveying or a similar subject, and you will need to be a full member of the RICS as you will need to be able to carry out Pre-Acquisition Surveys to RICS standards and format as per the organisation's requirements. You will need access to a vehicle and a valid UK driver's license as this role requires a fair degree of travel throughout the South East. You will need relevant career experience either working for commercial/retail clients, or in-house for a retailer, pub/restaurant operator, or within hospitality as a building surveyor. You will need to be familiar with AutoCAD as you will need to be able to create basic floor-plans (nothing too technical) for each fit-out project. What you'll get in return In return for your services you will receive a competitive package of £55-60K PA as well as private medical AND dental cover. In addition to this the organisation provides a pension starting at 5% with the employer matching your contributions up to 10% (this could equate to a £12K annual pension contribution). You will be contracted to a 35 hour working week, and you'll also receive 25 days of holiday a year bank holidays on top. You'll receive a laptop and mobile phone for your work, enabling you to work from the comfort of your own home when you're not on site.
