Overview

We are partnered with a successful planning consultancy to find a new Director or Senior Director, with a view to their becoming the Head of Planning for the South East, focusing on work in the Home Counties. Clients will include housebuilders and land promoters, and you will be dealing with strategic land, Green Belt sites, masterplanning and urban extensions, major and SME housing-led projects as well as industrial and a mix of other uses. With an excellent wider team in place as an office of planners, and already a supporting team to immediately manage, this hire is key to the growth of the business and could be a career-making position for the right individual. Your role will include: Strategy, business generation and growth ideally outside of the M25, although black-books of any clients will still be welcomed Project leading and delegating of work to team, monitoring progress and dealing with budgets, fees and invoicing Pitching for new business and collaborating with design and development colleagues internally Appraising sites and pre-app advice for clients Promoting of sites through Local Plans and submitting applications Coordinating project teams and sub-consultants, keeping good relationships and promoting of collaboration with design-teams Stakeholder engagement and managing of relationships with LPAs and key contacts Management of a team, leading on recruiting, training, CPD and assessing performance of employees within team You will ideally: Have at least 10 years within town planning, with the most recent role being in consultancy (although less experience will be considered) Have a track-record in work-winning, and a client following either in the short or medium term Be an Expert Witness or experience at Examination in Public Be a confident communicator, and good team leader with management experience Have excellent written skills and technical ability While being a London-based role and needing a presence in the office, it is in an easily commutable spot for someone coming in from Berks, Surrey, Sussex, Kent, or Essex.
