MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB - FINANCIAL CONTROLLER I am recruiting for a leading Legal firm based in Leeds. They are looking for a Financial Controller with great experience working in a solicitors accounts department. Demonstrating a good understanding of Solicitor Accounting Rules. Key Tasks To assist in the management of the firm's finances, liaising with the members and the bank as necessary to facilitate the efficient running of the firm and to achieve strategic objectives and growth. to deal with general banking requirements and liaison with the Firm's bankers, to assist with all queries concerning the banking, managing the facility on a day to day basis, communicating with the members where necessary and monitoring cashflow to facilitate the efficient running of the firm. provide MI to the partners as and when required, both scheduled and ad-hoc. to manage the production of monthly management accounts, in accordance with any requirements from third parties, such as our bank, whether these management accounts are produced internally or by our accountants. to produce commentary to go with the management accounts that will assist the business in making strategic decisions and produce supplemental MI when required that will help the business interpret the finances. to be responsible for all required reporting to HMRC, including RTI, P11D, P60 and VAT. to be responsible for preparation and payment of the payroll each month. to manage the firm's pension scheme and liaise with the provider when necessary. to manage the private medical insurance scheme and liaise with the broker when necessary. to manage the purchase ledger process and payments. to liaise with our Solicitors Accounts Rules auditors and ensure a satisfactory audit result. to manage the PCI DSS accreditation as it relates to the card payment methods in place at the time. to manage the cashier's office and staff, ensuring that the cashiers have an appropriate level of skill, conducting appraisals etc and that processing is efficient and timely as well as providing cover during any absences. to be fully conversant with the Solicitors Accounts Rules, Deposit Account Rules, Professional Conduct Rules and any other good practice requirements necessary in the execution of your duties and to ensure full compliance with the same. to ensure Money Laundering procedures are adhered to and any suspicious circumstances reported to the MLRO to be familiar with and operate and comply with any quality procedures the firm operates. to comply with any Health & Safety procedures the firm operates to. other duties of a similar nature which are within your skill and competence as may be required from time to time to ensure the smooth running of the firm. PERSON SPECIFICATION SKILLS: A high level of accountancy/book-keeping skills, interpersonal skills including written and oral communication. Computer literate with an understanding of relational databases. QUALIFICATIONS: Relevant accountancy qualification Formal qualifications in English and Mathematics EXPERIENCE: Previous experience of working in a solicitor's accounts department. Familiar with and having a good understanding of the Solicitors' Accounting Rules. PERSONAL QUALITIES Assertive, articulate and self-confident. Reliable and conscientious with sound attention to detail. Smart and professional in attitude and demeanour. DRESS CODE You should appear smart at all times, a suit or similar SPECIAL FEATURES Patience, tolerance, a calm temper and good humour are a prerequisite to this position. Must be meticulous in their approach to the work and capable of explaining financial transactions (and the reasons for them) in simple straightforward language. Furthermore, you are required to: carry out your duties diligently and to the best of your abilities; comply with all lawful and reasonable instructions of the Firm and any policies and rules put in place by the Firm; do your utmost to promote the interests and reputation of the Firm; refrain from making any false or misleading statement relating to the Firm or any of its clients or suppliers or any of its or their officers or employees; take all possible care not to damage any of the Firm's property or equipment.
