Overview

Our client is a well-established law firm with offices based in a modernised Georgian building overlooking one of the Inns of Holborn. They are known for their work in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, electronics and software-related inventions. They are recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to help with all aspects of the day-to-day processing of all accounts transactions. Primarily reporting to the Accounts Supervisor, or the Senior Accounts Clerk in her absence, with additional reporting lines to other Managers and the Head of Finance (depending on the tasks). Generally providing support to the finance function in the day-to-day processing and handling of account transactional matters. Please note, a sound understanding of double entry principles is a pre-requisite for this role. Responsibilities Supporting sales ledger services in the following activities, on a rotational basis Maintaining the cash collections spreadsheet Processing cash receipts Supporting maintenance of the firm’s deposit accounts Managing the electronic inbox relating to notifications of deposit account deductions. Responsible for processing official fees/charges as necessary. Addressing queries from Fee Earners or Secretaries. Attending to write-offs of official fees, where necessary. Preparing top-up payment listings and arranging for payment of top-ups. Providing regular updates to the Management Accountant and Head of Finance. Supporting purchase ledger services in processing of chargeable and non-chargeable invoices on the firm’s accounting system. Attending to a number of the firm’s payment runs. Attending to activities in support of authorisation of manual cheques and electronic payments. Providing support to team members in the reconciliation of supplier statements. Administrative duties including distribution of cheques by post, sending of banking instructions by fax and filing of paperwork. Attending to bank reconciliation work. Attending to petty cash counts. Attending to journal postings as directed by the Management Accountant or Head of Finance. Supporting the Accounts Supervisor in the housekeeping of control accounts. Participating in the month-end-close process on a rotational basis with the Accounts Supervisor, including end-of-day physical close and reporting (this may involve some late working). To assist the Head of Finance, Management Accountant or Accounts Supervisor with any project related duties. Assisting the Accounts Supervisor or other senior members of the Finance team with any other accounts or administrative duties as directed. To provide cover in the absence of other members of the Finance team, where appropriate. Candidate Profile You will have an AAT qualification. (desirable) You will also have excellent Microsoft Excel skills. A Level Educated
