Overview
Technical Lead - Java / AWS / Web So I'm looking for a Technical Lead because the role is a 70/30 split between Coding & Leadership The role is working for a high profile firm in Manchester City Centre that are reshaping their engineering team and the purpose of this position is to help improve their engineering practices but ultimately be a technical focal point for the engineers. The role is not just day-to-day leading of Software Engineers but also helping to shape engineering best practice, recruiting new team members and ultimately improving the cadence & quality of releases. The stack is largely Java-based, with stuff like Kotlin been used for mobile and the architecture is transitioning towards a Cloud-based, Microservices model. There will be challenges ; there is legacy technology which will need to be maintained and ultimately replaced. New Engineers will need to be hired (always tricky) and any 'transformation' is never plain-sailing. Ultimately though, there is an opportunity to really make a difference and apply your influencing skills . This position should be the launchpad to a more senior & strategic position in the future. About you: You love Software Engineering and love scalable, maintainable and regularly released code; you love inspiring others into following that vision and you love to see an organisation reap the benefits. You know how to build and lead high performing teams and you like to be their focal point. You can influence technical people into changing their ways, you can show them how and you can get them to buy into a bigger picture You will probably have progressed from a Software Engineer background and have prior experience as a Senior Software Engineer, a Lead Software Engineer or Technical Architect where you will have led teams, influencing both technical choices and engineering best practice. About our client: They are long established company in the e-commerce sector that are based in the City Centre, really easy to get to by all modes of public transport and they are embarking on a strategy of building as many of their digital products in-house, having previously bought them off-the-shelf. To enable this, they are transforming their software engineering function and have made some progress but they recognise that they are ripe for a real innovator to come and inspire some accelerated changes.
