Overview

Job Purpose We are currently recruiting for a Chief Instructor to support the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) based in HMS Excellent. The Chief Instructor will be expected to promote and oversee the use of the Royal Navy Water Activities Centre as both a recreational and RYA Training Centre for Serving Royal Navy personnel and other authorised users in accordance with the current service level agreements. To coordinate and run RYA courses in both Dinghies and Power boats and support the RNKA in delivering BCU Course’s and Taster Sessions in Kayaking for RN Personnel, service dependents and others as authorised. Secondary Purpose To support the Principle / Centre Manager in providing an efficient and safe water environment for all visitors to the Centre. Principle Tasks but not limited to: To deputise in the absence of the RNWAC Manager (Royal Navy Water Activities Centre) Responsible to the Manager RNWAC for the supervision of the safe operation of the RNWAC and proper conduct of all users, verifying the legitimacy of qualifications, identifying risks and control measures while utilising Interserve, National Governing bodies and where applicable MOD Health and safety management systems. Conducting the contracted accredited training and recreational outputs of the RNWAC. Ensure recognised training and instructional standards are met through regular continuous professional development and observation, with particular attention to quality and procedural accuracy, while administering the award of governing body qualifications. Assist in organising, resourcing the preparation, launch, recovery, repair and first line maintenance of contracted RNWAC craft and coordinate second line repair requirements. Support the Centre Manager in all health and safety / COSHH administration. Maintain an appropriate operational liaison for the proper conduct of water-borne activities whilst afloat with Harbour Control. Exercise First Line Management of the Interserve RNWAC Staff. Maintain a close interest and knowledge of relevant environmental protection issues. Ensure personal professional qualifications are maintained Carry out any other tasks as determined by the Interserve Line Management to meet the needs of the business, including support/cover for other staff. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Key requirements for this post are: RYA Senior Instructor Sailing or higher RYA Powerboat Instructor Hold RYA Safety boat and VHF GMDSS Qualifications First aid at sea certificate BSUPA Level 2 Instructor (Desirable) IOSH Health and Safety Qualification (Desirable) Additional Information IT Literate with a working knowledge of MS applications MOD Security Clearance will be required (Proof of Right to Work in the UK essential). Employment is subject to gaining MOD Security Clearance. Core working hours 37.5 hrs per week and overtime during evenings and weekends is expected. Required to wear approved company work wear,including PPE when necessary.
