Overview

The Company Public sector organisation is looking to recruit an Applications and Systems Engineer. The Role Joining an expanding team you will install, support, configure, administer, document and proactively manage a large portfolio of enterprise scale applications. Tasks will include regular patching of server operating systems and applications, upgrades, system configuration, documentation, diagnosis and troubleshooting of complex issues, supplier management and the provision of 2nd/3rd line support. In addition you will also be involved in new system implementations and business process reengineering Specifically you will: Provide continuous support and maintenance of various applications by proactively monitoring and managing performance in order to prevent business affecting problems arising. Participate in the provision of technical expertise in the specification, procurement, and implementation of application related products, systems and services in support of the operational and administrative systems required in order for the organisation to function efficiently. Identify potential problems and trends of applications by ensuring the performance of the systems and support services remain in line with Service Level Agreements in order to provide a customer focused service. Participate in the development and documentation of operational standards and procedures in relation to application services ensuring that they comply with Service Management guidelines and that the performance of the systems and support services meet Service Level Agreements. Ensure that the Information Security requirements are met and that the appropriate documentation is prepared and maintained to support the services through their full life cycle. Liaise with all sections of the ICT Department to ensure the provision of a fully integrated, efficient, effective, and customer focused applications service. Liaise with internal and external user groups, manufacturers, and suppliers by attending meetings as required in order to maintain operational capabilities and to provide technical input to support the needs of the business. Communicate with stakeholders regarding change management, system performance, and business needs in order to maintain relationships and provide an effective service to develop their knowledge and professionalism in the use of the Force applications. Participate in the provision of an out of hours emergency service including the identification and rectification of faults in software or hardware systems and associated backup and recovery procedures. The Requirements You will possess experience in supporting, maintaining and administering complex applications, with the ability in being the subject matter experience in those. With a keen understanding of business needs and ideally some involvement in project management, you will have worked and managed relationships with 3rd party providers and will possess: Strong technical, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills Have experience of building and patching Windows servers and desktop operating systems Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills at all levels The ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment An outstanding attention to detail with superior time and project management skills The ability to provide application performance tuning Capability to plan and coordinate testing, changes, upgrades, and new services, to ensure that systems will operate correctly in current and future environments. In addition you will be self-motivated, be able to work independently and take the initiative in way you work. Some exposure to project management as well as knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, PowerShell, web development, IIS, and database technologies would be advantageous. Though previous application support experience is preferred, applications from technically proficient service desk professionals with the right attitude to learning and providing excellent customer service are welcomed.
