JOB TITLE: Waste Manager We currently have some unique & exciting opportunities within Southampton University Hospitals which will allow the successful candidates to gain regular shifts & valuable experience within a variety of unique environments. Locations covered: Southampton Pay rates £30,401 - £37,267 pro rata 37.5hrs pw Mon-Fri. Temp role running 6 months Job Description: UHS require an interim Waste Manager who will be responsible for all on-going management of the staff and operational functions of the Waste Team. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of an efficient, reliable and high-quality Waste Management service to University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. Previous experience working in a Waste or Recycling environment is desirable Although the normal working hours will be 37.5 per week, core hours between 7am and 5pm, there may be times when the post holder will need to work some unsociable hours (e.g. at the weekend or up to 8pm) This role is based at Southampton General Hospital Reporting to the Portering & Waste Manager the post holder will be required to: Control and Manage collected waste and ensure that all storage, Handling, Transporting and Final disposal complies with regulatory requirements Ensure compliance and carry out regular audit checks are carried out in the department Be responsible for all Health & Safety issues relating to the department, also carry out Risk Assessments and develop safe working practices. Follow waste policy and procedure guidelines Participate and develop with other trust staff the Trusts Environmental policy ensuring best practice is adopted, in relation to the Management of Waste. Monitor waste segregation processes on all sites whilst ensuring the trust's position in relation to appropriate and proper segregation are not compromised. Attend agreed meetings to discuss service performance, quality standards and costs related to waste management Maintain all data as required by regulating bodies. Liaise with clinical staff to reduce waste outputs whilst continually educating staff on waste Segregation and Handling Manage all complaints and reported incidents in relation to waste management Ensure all staff have an annual appraisal and that all statutory and mandatory training as required by the Trust is carried out Ensure the Trusts infection prevention procedures are followed at all times Effectively manage attendance of the workforce ensuring the minimum levels of staff are maintained to deliver the service Respond to emails and telephone enquiries from Wards and Departments requiring ad-hoc waste collections Ensure all Waste Rounds are completed daily, in full and on time Ensure all confidential waste is collected and secured Carry out spot checks in waste stores to ensure areas are being used appropriately and cleared of waste every day Ensure the Waste Yards are kept clutter free and safe for operatives to work in Liaising with the appointed contractors ensure all skips are emptied to maximise efficiency In return for your hard work & your professional, caring & reliable service you will have access to the following benefits: Work local to you Weekly pay Paid annual leave You'll be part of the NHS family Incentives & Rewards so you can earn more money Free training & ongoing learning development opportunities Flexible hours - Full or part time hours to suit your availability Discount across 100's of high street br&s for you & your family with the Health Service Discounts scheme Statutory Maternity & Paternity Access to the NHSP Stakeholder Pension Access to NHSP shifts & systems via your Mobile Please note that you will be contacted via email throughout the recruitment process, so we urge you to ensure your email address submitted is accurate & checked regularly.
