Recruitment has opened for a 6-month paid Internship role with C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. The successful intern is expected to start in May 2020 and will be based in our London Office. The Company The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, now in its 15 th year, connects 96 of the world’s greatest cities which have committed to tackling climate change. We bring mayors from around the world together to learn from each other in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating resilient, sustainable and low carbon cities. C40 cities represent more than 700 million urban citizens and their economies account for 25% of the global GDP. C40’s ‘Deadline 2020’ report sets out the critical role that the world’s major cities have to play in delivering the historic Paris Agreement to prevent catastrophic climate change. C40’s team of 200 staff is headquartered in New York, with offices in London, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Beijing and Paris, and individual staff based across 25 different locations, with the Office of the Chair based in Los Angeles. The strategic direction of the organization is determined by an elected Steering Committee of C40 mayors which is chaired by the Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the C40 Board of Directors, which is responsible for operational oversight. An eight-person management team, led by Executive Director, Mark Watts, leads the day-to-day management of C40. C40’s three core strategic funders are Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and Realdania. C40 Business Planning and Reporting team The Business Planning and Reporting team is a new C40 team and the intern will join at an exciting time as we report on delivery against our 2017 – 2020 Business Plan and develop the new 2021 – 2024 Business Plan and Strategy. This role will be supporting both objectives. They will report to the Head of Monitoring and Evaluation and also work closely with all members of this small team, including the Director. The Role The successful intern will support the Business Planning and Reporting team across a wide range of areas, working in particular on three main topics: C40-wide reporting to funders and cities on the previous Business Plan; strategic consultation with C40 cities on the new Business Plan components and new membership requirements; training and knowledge sharing for C40 staff around the new C40 Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning strategy and data collection system. S/he will have the opportunity to develop skills and understanding in a range of subjects, gaining valuable experience working with international colleagues in a fast-paced and exciting global organization. Professional development for interns is a priority in the team, including encouragement to shape objectives to their interests, and access to mentoring by a senior colleague. Responsibilities The responsibilities of the role will include: · Providing support as needed to the Head of Monitoring and Evaluation and the Director of Reporting and Business Planning. · Providing administrative support to the Business Plan development process and consultations with C40 staff and cities, including with regular updates to the C40 Management Team and C40 funders. · Supporting organisation of team and C40-wide workshops (virtual and in-person), including of trainings for C40 staff around the new C40 Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning strategy and data collection system to be rolled out over 2020. · Providing desktop data research as required on cities and issues related to business planning and reporting, globally and in specific regions. · Assisting with knowledge sharing from and among C40 cities to improve cities’ data quality and effectiveness, through bespoke case studies and other channels. · Assisting with Business Planning and Reporting team communications to C40 staff and cities. Responding to enquiries from internal and external contacts and, as far as is possible, process these through to their resolution. · Establishing and maintaining lines of communication and positive working relationships with all parties across the C40 network of offices. Person Specification · Background in climate change, urban planning or related climate action sectors. · Strong organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail and a delivery-oriented approach. · Strong coordination skills, with ability to work across teams and time-zones, in formal and informal settings. · Extensive experience with data collection, analysis and communication, particularly with quantitative data collection and management. · Experience of organising physical or virtual events preferred. · Proactive self-starter with ability to work independently. · Strong English language written and verbal communications skills required. · International experience, particularly in a Global South country, and fluency in another language preferred.
