We continue to develop our service and in 2020 the private inpatient unit will transfer to the new UCH state-of-the-art hospital designed to the highest specification to meet the needs of haematology and oncology patients. Working within the haematology and oncology inpatient setting, you will be a member of a well-led, experienced nursing team working in an open, respectful environment. You will plan, deliver and evaluate excellent, holistic nursing care and ensure high levels of customer service alongside your multi-disciplinary colleagues. You will utilise specialist skills including chemotherapy administration, bone marrow transplant care, advanced communication and management of complex patients. Job Description As a Staff Nurse working on the haematology/oncology inpatient unit, you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of specialist care to ensure that our patients are cared for in a safe, compassionate and comfortable environment. This will include meeting physical, psychological and spiritual needs by effectively communicating with the patient, their families and your colleagues. This is a full time role working an equivalent of 37.5 hours a week as 13 x 11.5 hour shifts over 4 weeks. Internal rotation includes days, nights and weekends. Flexible arrangements may also be available. The attractive and competitive salary for this role is up to £39,300 (dependent upon skills and experience) plus unsocial hours enhancement. Aim of the Role To work, according to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines, as a named nurse for a defined group of patients within boundaries recognising personal accountability. Work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team to promote high standards of specialist nursing care and the effective running of the clinical area/department. Deliver and promote high quality, effective, individualised holistic patient care that is evidence-based with minimal supervision from senior staff. Acquire specialist skills and knowledge within the field of acute haematology/oncology nursing to develop competence and performance. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, relatives and carers that is responsive, respectful and promotes a sense of well-being and confidence. Maintain accurate, legible and contemporaneous patient records in accordance with HCA policy and NMC professional standards. Assume responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the line manager, including mentor/preceptorship, link nurse responsibilities, auditing, clinical governance and initiatives that safeguard clinical care standards, including supporting quality regulatory/accreditation processes, e.g. Care Quality Commission (CQC). Contribute to the development of services and quality improvement initiatives within a collaborative framework to enhance overall patient experience. Report incidents promptly and coherently, taking appropriate action to mitigate risk and actively participating in investigations and supporting learning. Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources, e.g. ward equipment/supplies and workforce. Duties & Responsibilities Assess, plan and deliver care to meet individual patient and family needs in accordance with agreed protocols (SOP’s/policies) Demonstrate impeccable clinical practice at all times and respond appropriately to deteriorating patients, changing patient condition and safety triggers e.g. NEWS 2, SBAR Work productively within a team and promote a multi-disciplinary approach whilst recognising own responsibility and accountability. Participate in research based care and other practice development initiatives.
