Job Description Director, Business Capability - RE Expert Support Refinitiv is a multi-billion US dollars business. It provides critical news, information and analytics, enables transactions and connects communities of trading, investment, financial and corporate professionals. It also provides leading regulatory and risk management solutions to help customers anticipate and manage risk and compliance. Within the technology function, Technology Operations manages the continuous availability and evolution of Refinitiv internal and customer facing applications and underlying infrastructure. These services process billions of updates per day, millions of web requests from and to hundreds of thousands of financial terminals, tens of thousands of feeds, etc The Technology Operations guaranties the application service availability, their deployment and set-up for Refinitiv. It supports hundreds of services running from about 60, 000 production servers, manages the underlying network and platform infrastructure as much as the applications and ensure that our vendors and third-party providers deliver in line with our business expectations. It stores 60,000 Terabytes of data and handles 79 billion market messages per day; critical information which must always be available to our customers. To support our business strategy in more agile and effective ways we are moving to a platform strategy supported by virtual technology. Our Operations need to evolve to operate at scale a business-critical platform hosted in virtualized data centers and cloud environments. We are moving to a lean enterprise DevOps model embracing the cloud and other Data center software driven opportunities supported by strong standard and processes. The Business Capability - RE Expert Support team will be the heart of our product technology operation, focal point for high severity outages, practical technology guidance, lifecycle guidance and operational assurance. It will drive sustainable improvement back to our Product / Quality Engineering and Service Design partners, and work with our third party scaled partners to implement and operate our product technology estate. Role Purpose: Director, Business Capability - RE Expert Support will be responsible for aggressive reduction of "on-prem" data center footprint, increasing virtualization ratio, strengthening hybrid ecosystem and accelerating our journey to Public Cloud. This role will lead our partnership with the wider Refinitiv Technology team responsible for making Public Cloud services available within our firm, leveraging native services from multiple cloud service providers to deploy scalable, secure and resilient products. This role combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE is a mindset and a set of engineering approaches to running better production systems-we build our own creative engineering solutions to operations problems. The group is contributing to the availability of services, their security and regulatory compliance, and the customer experience associated with their domain. The group also guaranties the reliable, agile and continuous flow of change required to optimize the performance of their platform ecosystem and performance of the customer service. Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. As SREs are responsible for the big picture of how our systems relate to each other, we use a breadth of tools and approaches to solve a broad spectrum of problems. Practices such as limiting time spent on operational work, blameless postmortems and proactive identification of potential outages factor into iterative improvement that is key to both product quality and interesting and dynamic day-to-day work. Key focus areas: Release engineering mindset to engage in and improve the whole life-cycle of services-from inception and design, through deployment, operation and refinement. Engineer and automate our environments and SDLC, designing for security, reliability and scale Scale systems sustainability through mechanisms like automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity. Solve operational problems by use engineering approaches in building innovative technical solutions. Focus on automation as first-class operating model to ensure stability and velocity during development. Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews. Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems. Lead, coach and mentor the organization with practical examples, hands-on workshops and papers. Experience in: On-prem data center infrastructure and services Low latency market data solutions IaaS, PaaS, SaaS Public Cloud Service Providers, particularly AWS, Azure, GCP Cloud-based Database, Storage, Networking, Compute technologies / services (Cloud) Infrastructure tools / services such as Terraform, EC2, EKS, Lambda, etc. Web Scalability - Highly available architectures - load balancing, scale out Messaging - ActiveMQ, MQ Series, SQS Cyber security fundamentals and working knowledge CI / CD pipelines and tool sets Testing Frameworks Source Control Management A systems thinker with hands-on experience with Lean and Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban. Knowledge / Education Technical and/or business degree or equivalent with computer science/IT experience/knowledge. Good understanding of financial services industry and products including Refinitiv markets. Firm understanding of IT infrastructure and the core function and process to operate and run. Culturally aware Role requirements The role requires good working knowledge of managing availability of business critical services in a large-scale technology environment involving multiples systems and operating teams. Demonstrating leadership for large group, being culturally aware is a key success factor. The individual must be able to inspire trust, manage expectations, gain sponsorship with business and technology senior and executive leadership teams. Crisis resolution with vendors, customers and senior leaders is also a key element. The ability to build or rebuild trust (post incidents) with Refinitiv customers relying on our company for their business is needed.
