The Speaker's Parliamentary Scheme may be the right scheme for you Apply now and to start in the Autumn The Speaker’s Parliamentary Placement Scheme is the House of Commons’ social mobility scheme, offering a 9-month paid job working in the office of a Member of Parliament as a Parliamentary Assistant. The Scheme aimed is at talented individuals who are underrepresented in Parliament, who have the skills, passion and potential to work in Parliament but who do not have access to the traditional routes in. Successful candidates work in their Member’s Westminster office from Monday to Friday and spend at least one Friday in the month in the MP’s constituency office. Throughout their 9 months participants attend masterclasses, visits external workplaces and are given a career mentor to support them with finding employment upon completing the scheme. Masterclasses cover topics relevant to working in an MPs office; written communications, presentation skills, social media and media handling, and personal branding. Main Duties: • Diary management including arranging meetings for MPs and replying to requests • Undertaking research and writing short briefings • Taking minutes in meetings • Drafting letters to constituents, other MPs, charities, businesses • Managing MP’s letter, email and telephone correspondence • Support for events including booking rooms, inviting guests and speakers • Attending meetings with MPs and Parliamentary Assistants • Other general ad-hoc administrative tasks • Attending developmental sessions Contract: 9 months from 5th October 2020 Hours: 37.5 hours/week (some evening work may occasionally be required)Pay: London Living Wage
