The Role: At TTL we provide application support and development services for a wide range of customer owned applications providing business critical functions. Many of these applications are hosted on a 3 rd party managed IBM zOS platform. The primary duty of Technical Architect is to bridge the gap between application SMEs and hosting providers as part of a programme of work to upgrade Operating system, Database and ISV components. This will include impact assessment of proposed software changes to hosted applications and interfaces, to identify optimal solutions to resolve issues as a result of, or in advance of, subsystem upgrades. Furthermore the architect will be required to identify alternate mitigating solutions to enable future subsystem upgrades to take place, as well as contributing to new Solution proposal designs for customer assessment Area of Responsibility · Perform / manage detailed impact assessments of future software upgrades on hosted applications and interfaces. · Participate in multi-vendor discussions to evaluate and prioritise activities · Produce detailed technical project artefacts required at each project stage for presentation and approval at relevant design review boards. · Provide input for process/documentation improvements. · Ensure environment consistency between test and production systems for application software · Creation of High and Detail level designs for COBOL, JCL, and CICS. · Create, test, document and troubleshoot new and existing APIs working with architects, application developers, networking architects and infrastructure teams. · Implement PoCs as needed to assist with research and development of strategic roadmap. · Work with business partners to drive and capture both functional and non-functional system requirements. · Support sales and marketing initiatives by providing technical analysis and answers to client RFP’s. · Define best practices for solutions implemented in CICS, IMS/DC/DB, DB2, IDMS. · Lead/Consult with application SME’s to define and perform appropriate testing pre and post upgrades to ensure any impact on applications are identified and mitigated accordingly · Applies knowledge of programming techniques to mentor developers and review code when required. · Work with onshore and offshore resources across multi sites. · Also extend the support for Service delivery in case of any critical service related failures. Knowledge / Experience · Extensive experience of working within an IBM Mainframe environment, ideally as both a technical SME and a Technical / Solution architect role · Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or IT related field, and/or equivalent work experience. · Vast experience of working in a multi vendor environment as a 3 rd party services provider, including use of on and off-shore resource models · Expert in understanding and evaluating the impact of the following components on hosted applications: · COBOL · JCL · DB2 · IMS · IDMS · CICS · VSAM In addition to the above, it would also be advantageous to have a good level of understanding of the following: · RACF /ACF2 Security · Middleware: MQ · Job scheduling: CA-7 / Jobtrac · Remedy Change & Incident Management Tools · Performance and Capacity Planning If you are passionate about bringing innovation to the projects you work on and want to join a global company, then this is the place for you.
