Overview

Our client is a global manufacturer and distributor who are now recruiting a Process Control/Systems Engineer for their North Lanarkshire facility. Purpose Reporting to the Technical Manager, the purpose of the Process Control / Systems Engineer is to support, maintain and continually improve the Process Control systems throughout the plant. Taking ownership for all site-based systems, the Process Control/Systems Engineer will be responsible for maximising process efficiency, through ongoing monitoring and analysis of plant and product data. Principal Accountabilities Maintain and monitor existing process control computer systems to ensure maximum efficiency and availability to plant. Lead further development of the current process control systems, preparing specifications based on discussions with internal customers and the job holder’s specialist knowledge, to meet the technical and functional objectives of the plant. Attend plant out of hours when required for fault investigations, fault resolution, commissioning, trials, or general business critical support. Participating in a reasonable endeavours call out system. The Process Control / Systems Engineer has the primary responsibility for the maintenance, development and availability of existing systems throughout the plant. They will work alongside other Engineers and Production staff, working in multi-disciplinary teams to provide solutions to systems related issues. Their unique combination of systems and process knowledge will enable them to act as a technical interpreter between the IT Systems and operational processes. They will develop an understanding of plant production processes and have the ability to work at a detailed level during fault finding, specification and design activities to enable useful discussion with plant-based personnel. They will be a major contributor to the content and execution of Process Control projects. The job holder will be committed to continuous personal development and keep their skills up-to-date with new and emerging hardware, software and communications technologies. Key Skills The job holder should be qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in a Science/Engineering discipline with a good knowledge and interest of software development techniques, computer languages, databases, operating systems (specifically Linux/Debian), networks, hardware and software tools. Experience using object-oriented programming languages is essential. In particular, a good understanding or willingness to learn C++, SQL and PHP is required. A solid IT background – technical enough to support the lower level Process Control / IT Infrastructure, Network Equipment / Cabling / Switch Configurations and supporting SQL databases. Knowledge of and experience with various statistical and mathematical modelling and optimisation techniques would be highly beneficial. The job holder will exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly at all levels with both internal and external contacts. Significant hands-on experience of software development and maintenance, specifically the software which presents the front-end user interface to lower level process control systems, PLCs and machinery e.g. GEM 80-400, Siemens S7, ABB500 etc. This is an excellent opportunity to join a recognised organisation.
