Director of Commercial Partnerships

Exec Appointments ,
London, Greater London
Job Type: Full-time

Overview

Westminster City Council are embarking on a major transformation of the procurement and commercial management function. Over twenty-five requirements have been identified and an exciting large-scale recruitment campaign has been launched involving specialist recruitment teams from Insight Executive Group and Allen Lane. The role advertised below will be integral to the transformation and will play a vital part in re-envisioning Westminster as a City for All. About us Westminster City Council is the proud custodian of the heart of the nation’s capital – we host some of the most vibrant communities, from the world-renowned Soho to richly diverse Church Street. We are home to some of the world’s most iconic features including Oxford Street, UK Government, the Royal Household and the bustling West End, and attract a million visitors a day to our city. We house over 50,000 businesses that sustain more than 700,000 jobs. Our City for All vision is to provide world class services to the residents and communities we serve. We will do this by creating a greener and cleaner city, vibrant communities and one of the best connected, most technologically advanced cities in the world. The role Join us as our Director of Commercial Partnerships, and you’ll be in a strategic and influential role that will help make this happen. You’ll take oversight of £700m of external spend and lead a team of 40 commercial professionals to help turn our ambitions into reality. You’ll lead and inspire your team, but you won’t be inward facing. We are a Council that believes in the power of partnerships – that we can achieve more together by working collaboratively within the Council and forming strong relationships with other authorities, the business community, the voluntary and community sector and, of course, our commercial suppliers. Your background You’ll be joining us as from an existing Director level role in a large, complex organisation, and you won’t be phased by leading multiple programmes of work, from sector-leading regeneration projects to being at the forefront of delivering new technology solutions. You may have held similar roles the public, private or voluntary sectors – local government experience is not essential, what is vital is that you have led successful partnership initiatives and gained the trust and confidence of stakeholders. Strong commercial acumen is a must, and you might not come from a traditional procurement background. This role is about much more than managing a process - we’re leading the way on many aspects of social value, the living wage and ethical supply chains. And we want to go further, working with our partners in all sectors to tackle the climate emergency, reduce inequality and promote diversity and inclusion. A great place to grow We know that the best results are generated when our people have the freedom to flourish. It’s how we set standards that others seek to emulate. So you can expect to enjoy agile working and targeted personal and professional development. We work hard to create a progressive and diverse working environment, including benefits like shared parental leave and flexible working opportunities. The team are based in central Westminster, and operate from recently refurbished offices with outstanding, inspiring views across London.
