Overview
Lead Chemotherapy Nurse - Bristol Consult Search & Selection are proud to be partnered with an innovative provider of specialist care who are currently seeking a Lead Chemotherapy Nurse to join their team on a permanent basis. The primary responsibility of the role is providing specialist nursing leadership and effective management of resources to ensure high standards of care are delivered to all patients. Key Responsibilities: Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment, this will include: Close liaison with Consultants, Pharmacists and other members of the clinical team Coordinating Nurse lead clinics Managing patient case load Work autonomously whilst providing clinical leadership, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care, which reflects the assessment undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made ensuring clear documentation in the patient’s records Produce and review relevant operational policies and protocols in line with clinical governance policies and in line with health and safety legislation to ensure compliance with CQC standards. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in intravenous access, the management of central venous catheters, venepuncture, and chemotherapy delivery, including the management of anaphylaxis and extravasation Comply with measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients. Ensuring the formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents Work with junior staff to identify knowledge gaps in relation to chemotherapy patients and ensure staff are appropriately educated Fulfil the role of mentor, providing peer support to staff working within the chemotherapy service Participate in any service reviews or benchmarking activities to drive service development forward. Lead on the specific areas of development of nursing practice within the team To provide expert knowledge and advice in own specialist area, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence underpinned by evidence-based practice. Participate in the management of change to improve standards and communication links Comply with measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients. Ensuring the formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents Utilise and maintain information systems to aid audit and to provide regular activity analysis reports Keep up-to-date with current literature and research in the specialty Maintain your own continuing personal and professional development in accordance with NMC requirements Experience/ Qualifications required NMC registered Experience in delivering chemotherapy and knowledge of infection control An advanced practitioner either through qualification and/or extensive clinical experience within oncology and chemotherapy administration Passion for delivering first class patient care Experience in clinical leadership and budget management/commercial awareness Have experience of service development Excellent communication and organisational skills Team player Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise Ability to work accurately and reliably under pressure Highly competitive salary on offer with comprehensive benefits package.
