In-House Legal Counsel Legal, Risk and Compliance Division of Insurance sector City of London based permanent opportunity salary £70k - £90k Job Purpose This role is to act as Legal Counsel in the Legal Department of our client's new Insurance Division, providing high quality, practical in house legal advice to the UK and international insurance intermediary businesses within our client. Our client is expanding quickly and the purpose of this recruitment is to ensure that the our client's Legal team can continue to meet the requirements for legal advice. Contract duration is likely to be 12 months. There is the potential for this to become a permanent role. Main Responsibilities: Legal: Provide timely, practical in house legal advice and support to our client's Group on a range of UK and international legal issues including regulatory, corporate, commercial, contract, employment, company secretarial, data protection, and insurance related issues. Advise on and manage all escalation matters for the Company such as complaints, potential legal threats, actual legal proceedings and potential errors and omissions against the Group. Manage the provision of external legal advice as required. Contribute effectively to Group projects requiring Legal input Close coordination with the Compliance, Risk, and Company Secretarial teams within the Legal Risk & Compliance Dept. Additional Responsibilities: Deliver on-going legal training and education to Group companies as required Representing Us: Champion our name and core values. Represent us with clients, agents, suppliers and other organisations. Compliance: Comply with relevant legal, regulatory and compliance requirements, Errors and Omissions (E&O) compliance procedures and quality initiatives. Escalate any potential E&O's to Divisional Directors and the Legal & Compliance team at the earliest opportunity. Essentials: Lawyer qualified in UK or similar jurisdiction with a good working knowledge of insurance, contract, employment and company law Working understanding of the principal regulations governing the UK financial services industry Team player: this role involves very close coordination within Legal team Practical and pragmatic approach to addressing issues Appetite for hard work and comfortable juggling workload and deadlines to meet requirements Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate clearly and practically with non-lawyers An ability to organise effectively and to prioritise and organise his/her own workload to ensure deadlines are adhered to and targets are met An ability to develop and sustain strong working relationships with both internal and external clients An understanding and appreciation of the commercial needs of our client An ability to identify, contain and solve problems quickly and efficiently.
