Overview
"I’m looking for a real technical expert; someone who can pull large commercial cases to pieces and ensure we’re delivering our clients a robust insurance programme", says the Director of this respected independent broker. This firm is a real success story in the local market; it provides a range of insurance and risk management solutions to some of the most prestigious firms in the Midlands, as well as some notable clients further afield. Accounts are from a range of industry sectors, such as Manufacturing, Warehousing and Technology. This firm is staffed by some of the most technically-gifted, passionate and diligent insurance professionals in the Birmingham market. This client-centric, meticulous approach is clearly paying dividends as it continues to win quality accounts from national and other regional brokers in the area. This broker has a great reputation for its professional yet friendly environment, where all the team enjoy working to shared goals and objectives, and there’s a real focus on delivering an unrivalled service. Accordingly, it enjoys a high level of staff retention; indeed, this role has only arisen due to the retirement of the incumbent Senior Account Handler. Here, you will be responsible for the day to day management of a portfolio of clients pertaining to several Account Executives and Directors. This portfolio generates several hundred thousand pounds in commission and fee income, and comprises many of firm’s largest and most complex cases (chiefly those generating £10K-50K income). This portfolio can be tweaked to suit your skills, experiences and ambitions but is likely to include firms from within Contracting, Distribution and the Professions. As a senior member of the team, you will also be expected to assist the management team with the smooth running of the business, for example, helping with the development of less-experienced colleagues, as well as getting involved in special projects. Duties will include scrutinising insurance contracts, and suggesting changes to policy wordings. Where gaps in cover are identified, you will promote appropriate ancillary lines and services to ensure all risks are suitably mitigated. You will also negotiate with insurers to obtain the most comprehensive cover at a competitive premium. As you will be preparing a variety of documentation, you must be analytical, methodical and have excellent report writing skills. You must also have superb verbal communication skills, with the gravitas to secure 'buy in’ from a variety of stakeholders. Needless to say, you must also have detailed knowledge of all common commercial covers. Whilst not essential, it is anticipated that you will have made some progress towards professional qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute. In return, you will receive a generous basic salary along with a comprehensive array of company benefits, including support towards professional qualifications / memberships.
