Overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to step into a Policy & Public Affairs Officer level position within a highly renowned trade association. From day one you will be working alongside the Public Affairs Manager, to assist in the development of the organisation's policy position on a range of topics, implement the organisation's public affairs strategy in Westminster, and establish initiatives to encourage stakeholder interest in the organisation's key issues. This role would suit a policy and public affairs professional looking for the next step in their career, and especially those with a focus on financial services or general business issues. Interviews will take place with the client as soon as suitable candidates are identified, so do not hesitate to apply. Responsibilities will include: Research and analysis of public policy Drafting of papers, policy briefs and responses, including feeding into press releases and other media materials Track and respond to emerging developments in parliament and the wider political/business spheres Influencing policy decisions by lobbying to UK MPs, civil servants and EU institutions Representing the organisation at stakeholder meetings Responding to government policy changes and consultations Provide secretarial support at policy committees Offering support on project work within the department and broader organisation A successful applicant for this role will have: Previous experience of policy issues, either from working for an MP or MEP or from working within another membership organisation, policy institute, or Think Tank etc. The ability to draft effective communication or policy documents, adapting content for different audiences Previous experience of having engaged with politicians, parliamentary and government departments or other external stakeholders, especially in supporting a public affairs campaign Excellent communication skills and confidence to build relationships and present clearly to a range of audiences Educated to degree level within a Political or Business Industry related field Previous experience with developing policy is desired, but not essential
