Overview
Exciting opportunity for an exceptionally talented Section Editor with a flair for online content to work with Pub Ocean – one of the fastest-growing publishers on the internet. The ideal candidate is an ideas person who’s super organised and has impressive editorial experience. Strong leadership potential is highly desirable, and a keen interest in either History, Pop Culture or Lifestyle/Human Interest would be ideal. The successful candidate will be required to oversee all aspects of Pub Ocean’s editorial production within their section while likely assisting with other categories too. The role is based in our Bristol office and will involve working with the in-house Editorial staff and a range of freelancers as well as our Audience Development team in New York. Attributes and Skills Highly organised – with the ability to handle deadlines while maintaining a consistently high level of performance Ability to manage and prioritise editorial workflow, including planning ahead, scheduling and ensuring staff have tasks sent to them on time Excellent communication skills – with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of editorial team members, freelancers and people from other departments Strong creative approach, including the ability to spot and brainstorm compelling story ideas and skilfully title and frame them Ability to commission content, creating clear and well-crafted briefs that give solid direction on storytelling Ability to supervise writers and sub-editors, making sure feedback is shared and quality standards are upheld Exceptional sub-editing abilities, including first-rate spelling and grammar and excellent fact-checking and copy-editing skills Astute knowledge of online publishing, with a particular flair for viral content and a keen sense of what inspires readers and keeps them engaged Great picture researching skills, preferably with some knowledge of image editing tools, and an eye for what makes a compelling image Ideally a keen interest in History, Pop Culture or Lifestyle/Human Interest content Potential to be involved in the process of recruiting new staff, including setting tests and conducting interviews Skilled in the use of Excel/Google spreadsheets Knowledge of or adaptability to the use of WordPress and basic HTML Ideally NCTJ qualified (or with equivalent experience) The Person We’re Looking For At Pub Ocean, we value trailblazers who have great ideas and who relish a challenge.
