Overview
About the Job Dimensions The Technical Field Engineer role provides support for the activity of the ABMs in selling a wide range of oils, greases and coolants across the UK, with particular focus in the East of the England. The Technical Field Engineer provides technical support via telephone and e-mail for the sales channels across the wider lubricants business as necessary. The Technical Field Engineer will also undertake trials, oil sampling and analysis on site visits to make the best possible recommendations to clients for products and uses. The Technical Field Engineer also has the ability to contribute to the development of new products in conjunction with the client and Sales Manager, and Laboratory team in relation to the sample analysis. About the Activities Ensure high quality technical support through liaison with customer, Area Business Manager (ABM) and other relevant departments. Responsible in recommending Total products and supporting technical advice for applications in all the channels across the lubricants business as required. Support and coach the ABMs to ensure a good basic level of understanding on technical issues. Recommend products, identify equivalents to competitor grades, rationalise grades to meet and optimise customer requirements and be accountable and liable for all recommendations. Prepare technical aspects of tenders, equivalent lists and surveys and represent the technical department in events such as presentations and exhibitions. Conduct technical lubricants surveys on site to identify applications and suitable lubricants products. Attend regular meetings with large accounts to technically assist, update, rationalise and introduce new technologies where necessary. With the objective of fully supporting ABM in maintaining/gaining business and assist in strengthening customer relations. Ensure review meetings with the Technical Support Manager are conducted at least monthly in order to maintain a live activity plan. Liaise with the marketing department, laboratory, sales managers, corporate head office and other stake holders to optimise and harmonise product ranges, tender queries and business flows. Have a working knowledge of the various TOTAL sales support suites, particularly TIG, Signalman and ANAC, able to present and outline the various benefits, supporting the process of gaining new accounts, extract customer data and support Paris in the installation. To facilitate this training will be provided through joint visits etc. Look for opportunities to build & maintain technical strategic relationships within key accounts or prospects, identified in tandem with the ABMs, develop and assist sales in negotiations with same to grow UK business or gain new potential business and build brand awareness and technical expertise in line with the strategy. Plan working time split between field visits and working from home efficiently (generally this is anticipated as two days WFH and three in the field, but this will vary). To assist in identifying areas of opportunity where Total products can be marketed at premium prices. Ensure that the company’s policies, standards, HSEQ are in place. Undertake ad-hoc projects and other requirements as required. About the Context and Environment Day to day involvement with customers, answering technical queries, ensure at all time high standards of recommendations in line with specifications, regulations and policies and strategies. To be able to explain "high end" technical issues to non-technical users, so they can use the information in day-to-day applications or solve the problem. To respond and give recommendations in case of product contamination or failure of equipment regarding lubrication. About the Accountabilities Achievement of objectives and quarterly review with line manager. Will also be measured as part of the monthly survey of external customers: complaints on technical information given by customers, feedback from customers. The job holder must establish priorities and be flexible, in order to achieve set goals, update and review policies and procedures to achieve highest standards and company policies. Good journey planning and following company policies on driving, daily driving limits, mobile phones, utilizing trains or planes where viable. Ensure all surveys are written up and available to the appropriate ABM within a max 3 weeks of being conducted. About the Qualifications / Experience Required Graduate degree in either Chemistry or Chemical/Mechanical Engineering 5 year experience in oil or associate OEM industry Experienced in the use and application of oils and greases Familiar with all current legislation on lubricants Project management experience Customer orientated with excellent communication skills
