POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES The Packaging Technologist position will execute a variety of packaging Innovation & Renovation projects in support of the objectives of the New Product Development (NPD) team. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work across a broad-range of packaging commodity types (e.g. poly film, corrugate, paperboard, etc.), ensure food safety, and provide value to the customer while controlling overall costs. This position must work closely with internal customers across multiple locations (UK and Portugal) and functional areas, as well as external suppliers to successfully deliver projects against businesses requirements. A successful candidate would be self-motivated with a passion for exceeding customer expectations. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES + Simultaneously manage multiple projects of either a continuous improvement nature (cost savings, productivity gains, and process improvements), sustainability, or to fulfill a specific customer need. + Technical lead in the creation of new/revision of existing packaging specifications across all phases of development; responsible for the maintenance of packaging specifications within SAP. + Oversee plant trials in support of project implementation; reporting against predetermined key performance indicators to gain adoption within the Operations group. + Identifies packaging related waste and material standardization opportunities; implementing improvements when supported by a business case. + Provide technical expertise to multiple functional areas (including but not limited to Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales & Marketing) to overcome business challenges. + Performs other duties as assigned EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS + Qualifications science/engineering degree or proven experience in similar environment; membership of Institute of Packaging by examination desirable. + 0 to 2 years of experience working directly with packaging development. + Basic knowledge of a broad range of packaging materials and packaging equipment commonly found within the Food and Beverage or FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) industry.
