Specialist Clinical Psychologist- Band 7 About the team: The Cognition and Mental Health in Ageing (CMHA) service line is responsible for delivering services to people with dementia and older people with mental health problems. There are community services for older people in each of the 5 boroughs plus two inpatient wards providing mental health beds for older people across the trust. The post is based three days per week in the Richmond Older Peoples' Community Mental Health services and two days a week providing psychological support to Trust Older People's inpatient services. The Richmond Older Peoples' Mental Health Service comprises the Recovery & Support Team, the Intensive Community Support Team, the Care Home Liaison Service, and the Memory Assessment Service. These teams provide assessment and treatment to clients age 75+ with severe and enduring mental health problems in the community, outreach support to nursing and residential homes and day centres in meeting the complex and challenging needs of people with dementia and other mental health problems, and also assessment and diagnosis of clients with suspected dementia of any age. South West London and St Georges Mental Health Trust inpatient services for older people comprises two inpatient wards, based at Tolworth and Springfield Hospital, for individuals experiencing severe difficulties in relation to their mental health or within the context of dementia. We are proud that these both received good reports during a recent CQC inspection. About the role: We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Clinical Psychologist to join our well established multidisciplinary mental health and memory assessment services within Richmond Older People's Mental Health Services and Trust older people's inpatient services. Applicants eligible for registration with the HCPC but not yet registered may be considered for the post. Any offer of employment for the post will be dependent upon successful registration. You will be joining two other established Clinical Psychologists based within the same service and a good network of psychologists across the Cognition and Mental Health (CMHA) service line, who have a wide range of expertise and who regularly meet for CPD activities and peer supervision. You will also receive regular individual supervision. We have good links with the ClinPsyD course at Surrey University and regularly have psychology trainees on placement. Both the multidisciplinary team and the wider Trust recognises and values the contribution of Clinical Psychology. This post would be suitable for someone newly qualified and also someone who is interested in developing their skills working with older people. The role is varied and will comprise: * Providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy to clients with severe and enduring mental health problems. * Offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non professional carers. * Providing complex assessment, including neuropsychological assessment of clients with suspected dementia. * Providing biopsychosocial assessment, interventions and consultation to nursing and residential homes for people experiencing behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia or within the context of mental health problems. * Providing a psychology service, including individual client work and staff consultation, within the inpatient ward environment. * Utilising research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service. About the location: The post is based three days per week at Barnes Hospital. Barnes Hospital is easily accessible from Mortlake, Barnes and Barnes Bridge railway stations with frequent trains to London Waterloo, frequent local buses, and via private transport. There is no canteen on site but there are local independent shops and restaurants easily accessible within a ten minute walk. The site is also a fifteen minute walk from the River Thames. Springfield Hospital is easily accessible via the Northern Line (Tooting Bec Station) and via private transport. It is located immediately next to Tooting High Street. Tolworth Hospital has good transport links to London via Surbiton and Tolworth Railway Stations, as well as buses for more local areas and via private transport. Both Tolworth and Springfield Hospital have canteens and local high street chain shops and restaurants.
