For more on Wheelabrator, please visit www.wtienergy.co.uk Summary Working as part of the Operations team and reporting directly to the Shift Team Leader, the jobholder is responsible for maintaining a safe, environmentally compliant and efficient boiler operation including maintaining productive boiler combustion, steam flows, and optimise generation, burnout, in-plant power combustion, and flue gas emissions. This role is worked on a rotating shift pattern (including weekends and Bank Holidays) with a requirement to work overtime or emergency call-out in order to meet operational demands. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Below is a summary of the main tasks and responsibilities of the post. Further tasks and responsibilities may be required within the demands of the business. * Working from a modern control room and supported by the assistant plant operator you will utilise the DCS (distributed control systems) to operate plant to include: * Waste heat recovery boilers * Steam turbine generator * Motors, pumps, compressors, conveyors and other auxiliary equipment. * Emissions monitoring and reporting equipment * Detects and responds to changing conditions with regard to maximising plant safety, environmental compliance and efficiency. * Co-ordinates, directs and trains the Assistant Plant Operator and other plant personnel, as required. * Performs equipment inspections during outages. * Assist in first line fault identification, diagnostics and rectification in conjunction with Shift Team Leader, assistant operator and technical staff. * Assist in developing operational procedures and instructions and reviewing them as instructed. * Work within the company's Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System and all relevant legislation. * Creates work requests and reports defects through the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). * Undertake continuing personal development to enhance knowledge & skills relevant to the role. * Performs physical duties associated with maintaining boilers and various equipment within the plant. * Carry out other reasonable tasks and duties as requested by shift team leader and management team. Supervisory Responsibilities The jobholder may lead, guide and direct 2-5 employees to maintain safety and in operation of plant, as well as deputising for the Shift Team Leader as necessary. Qualifications & Experience The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. * Experience of working within Energy from Waste or other similar environment is essential. * Working knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant is essential. * A practical approach to problem solving and demonstrable hands on ability in engineering operations. * The ability to undertake training that is relevant to the post.
