Job purpose: As part of Community Fibre's ongoing growth strategy, the need to provide a balance between regional levels of IT support with a global reach has long been recognised. This newly created role will become an integral part of Information Technology function. The Data Availability Lead position is a pivotal player-coach role that begins as 100% engineering individual contributor and can evolve into a 70% engineering / 30% team lead role as the team expands The role lead the development of the competency of the team in line with individual development needs and business requirements. The individual performing this role will also have responsibility for delivery of bids, projects, investments etc. as defined by the business. The role will also be responsible for working as part of a wider team to identify improvements in productivity across the company, ensuring that colleagues are exposed to the best opportunities and that the business is utilising their skills effectively. It is expected that this role will be operating at Senior or Principle Engineer level working for the majority of their time as a key engineer in integrated delivery teams. What you'll be doing: * Responsible for developing capability in their team in line with the requirements of the business as defined by the CIO and other IT Leads. * Responsible for ensuring a smooth transition to the new organisational model, leading members of their skill team through the change. * Working for the majority of time as an experienced engineer within programmes improving business delivery through technical excellence by performing a variety of project tasks. Responsible for maintaining and developing the capability and competency of their team so that customer demands are met. The role holder will develop an internal and industry network to enable transfer of best practice into their team. * Through partnership and communication, work across Community Fibre to create collaborative working relationships that demonstrably drives capability. * Recognised as an experienced engineer internally with colleagues with self-progression against discipline competencies. * Driving a culture of continuous discipline development within their team. * To perform activities in a productive, timely and effective manner. * To maintain appropriate records of time spent, actions taken and item status to facilitate management, future problem resolution and to keep users informed of progress. * Writing code. This is a senior engineer role. * To keep users up to date with progress and to liaise with colleagues and partners in an appropriate manner. * To liaise with users regarding escalated issues and to agree appropriate courses of action and priorities. * Provide the direction of our data engineering and architecture. Determine the right tools for the right jobs. We collaborate on the requirements and then you call the shots on what gets built. Seriously. * To assist in other activities of the IT function as directed The experience we're looking for you to bring: * Experience in Project / Program Managing using leading methodologies ( Prince 2 / Agile ) * A degree in computer science, mathematics, operations, management, or a related field is required. * Experience of working within Agile environment with daily stand-ups, work stack review and sprint planning. * Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a challenging environment. * Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. * Experience with distributed computing/MapReduce + JVM beneficial. * Experience with GIS data sets * Ext
