Job Title: Head of Governance Services School / Directorate: Strategic Planning Advert: Please note that this job is open to current members of Cardiff University staff only Head of Governance Services The environment for Universities is quickly evolving and it is critical to the ambition of the University that it develops its governance in a relevant way. As such Cardiff University is seeking to appoint a Head of Governance Services to work across the University to develop and deliver a proportionate governance framework underpinned by effective mechanisms. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the transformation of a governance environment which needs to be completed alongside safe delivery of day-to-day governance requirements. The Governance Services team supports the University to "make the right decisions and to make decisions in the right way". The team incorporates Governance Advice, Committee Support and Business Continuity. The team supports the University's Council and Executive Management by providing them with an effective governance environment; and enabling them to meet their corporate governance and charity trustee obligations in an innovative and proportionate way. To build on its proactive and influencing approach, we are now looking for a strong leader to create an inclusive, cohesive culture in which all members of the team understand their role in the wider University context to maximise its impact and deliver the ambitions set out by the University. Salary: 51,034 - 59,135 per annum (Grade 8) This post is full time and open ended (35 hours per week), and available immediately. In supporting our employees to achieve a balance between their work and their personal lives, we will also consider proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements Post Reference Number: 9934BR Job Description: Lead and develop an effective governance environment by promoting the importance of good governance with Council members, enabling them to meet their corporate governance and charity trustee obligations in an innovative and proportionate way Reporting to the General Counsel and Deputy Secretary, you will provide leadership and direction to the Governance Services team. You will translate the vision of the Department and University into tangible goals, managing performance through involvement in decisions, planning and regular communication. You will additionally be part of the Senior leadership team and expected to lead divisional activities and initiatives as required. Duties and Responsibilities Key Duties Lead the Governance Services team and the admin hub * Support the long-term strategic planning and management of the department, interpreting department strategy into work priorities and setting the standards and expectations for the team * Provide leadership to the Governance team, ensuring departmental objectives are communicated and engaged with and that staff are empowered to fulfil the expectations of the roles As an agent for change, you will provide energy and drive for Cardiff University to improve its approach to governance and its support for the different cohorts of Council and Committee members (e.g. non-executive, student, and staff, executive). You will identify best practice from inside and outside the HE Sector to inform, create and deliver a long term plan that creates a best-fit governance environment * Responsible for the development of principles and conceptual tools to improve the University's governance framework to include statutes, ordinances, regulations, policies and procedures * Keep up to date of developments affecting higher education and provide advice and facilitate discussion with key stakeholders to respond appropriately to changes * Facilitate positive change and research aspects of good governance to continuously improve the governance framework * Lead on changes to the governance framework by reviewing the effectiveness of Council and Council processes and introducing improvements based on evidence and feedback You will work across the University to promote good governance by delivering training and facilitating workshops to enhance the understanding of the governance framework of the University and develop means of communicating Acting as an expert adviser, you will be expected to provide proactive advice and direction on governance matters to internal and external stakeho
