The purpose built campuses provide state of the art facilities and our team of academic teaching and support staff have a real passion for all aspects of learning and development. The Role Oversee and manage the delivery of student welfare support across branch campuses operated by QA Higher Education (QAHE), working closely with partner Universities to provide a structured system of support, adhering to the University and QAHE policies. Lead the delivery of a student engagement strategy that drives improved student experience at all campuses. Main Responsibilities * Provision of student welfare services, including one-to-one appointments, workshops and events, accommodation advice and support, funding/financial advice and student health advice (all advice to be within specified policies), learning support and disability support, counselling * Ensure the provision of professional services (externally where necessary) to ensure students have access to appropriate support. This may include counselling, learning and disability support for example, ensure student are effectively signposted to external agencies when appropriate * Manage and lead the recruitment, induction, training, appraisal and ongoing supervision and management of the student welfare and relations team ensuring team members work to a high standard * Delivery of Welfare related induction information including regular workshops * Act as the Designated Senior Person for Safeguarding for QA Business School and oversee and monitor the support for students under the age of 18. * To provide advice and guidance to disabled applicants and students on the provision of reasonable adjustments for disabilities, SpLDs and mental health conditions. * To agree support arrangements for disabled students, liaising with Faculty and Registry to ensure arrangements are implemented. * Develop policies and procedures to ensure that the team follows legal and good practice guidance in all aspects of welfare support and advice, and ensure current policies are kept up-to-date * Ensure that the work of the department is monitored and regularly evaluated so that it continues to meet student needs, and ensure that students are aware of how the department can support them throughout their university journey * Ensure the Welfare and student relations department is well publicised to staff and students and that good levels of awareness are achieved. * Lead the provision of Students' Union/Student Association to support events, clubs and societies. * Work closely with all internal departments to improve and monitor student engagement and ensure the student voice is appropriately represented. * Representing the department internally and externally as required by senior managers e.g. at committee meetings and conferences * Ensure students have access to an appropriately tailored student handbook that is approved by the University * Developing good working relationship with the key liaison staff at the University, understanding University policies and ensuring they are appropriately adopted in the branch campus. Skills & Experience Required * Educated to degree level or equivalent * Substantial experience of working with students in a welfare setting including delivering confidential advice services to individual students on a range of welfare issues * Experience in working with students from a range of cultural backgrounds and providing support for students under the age of 18 * Experience in developing welfare/student engagement policy * Staff management experience * Service management experience * Qualified Counsellor with appropriate accreditation desirable * The ability to display initiative and work well within a team environment. * A good understanding of the issues affecting students in higher education - including mental health, disability, financial difficulties and issues related to disadvantage * A good understanding of the key legal and regulatory requirements involved in the support and wellbeing of students, including those who are under 18.
