Job Description
This role is a subset of the Group Finance Operations (MS ABS) team dealing with investment accounting information and issues for the UK and overseas MS Amlin group of companies. The role holder's responsibilities are as follows: * Monthly consolidation of investment SPVs into MS Amlin results for its group of companies; * Monthly reconciliation of UK Syndicate 2001 Solvency II and investment returns; * Deliver monthly information to UK Syndicate 2001 and to overseas MS Amlin companies in relation to their investments in the SPVs; * Quarterly Japan Head office reporting investment templates (DIVA) including detailed derivative templates; * Lloyd's QMA investment related templates, quarterly reconciliation of investment submission to Lloyd's, Lloyd's SII derivative gains and losses and deal with Lloyd's queries, on behalf of UK Syndicate 2001; * Production of annual group and Syndicate statutory account investment related notes, support local accounting teams in their financial statement preparation with regards to investment notes and and be involved in technical discussions with the Technical accounting team; * Managing outsourced fund accountants and discuss issues; * Acting as key driver in the planning, execution and delivery of projects impacting investment accounting; * Staff training and review of workings by other team members; * Liaising with Group (MS ABS) Investment Operations & Treasury, Group Finance Operations and local accounting teams; * Identifying and lead discussions on process improvement and implement improvement and controls; * Ensuring all ICF and J-SOX controls are adhered to; * Assisting auditors with their audit of IFRS and Japan reporting; * Remaining up to date on accounting and investment technical developments and their impact; * Supporting as directed from time to time other aspects of the Group Finance Operations and Governance team workload The role holder must be able to embrace changes as there will be significant amount of changes from the beginning. The role holder must show initiative, be organised, have strong communication skills, and be proactive and committed to meeting deadlines. To be able to perform this role effectively, the post holder will need some understanding of different investment types (bonds, equities, property, futures and other derivatives). They also need to have strong writing skills to deliver reports and documents in relation to analytical review and projects work. Key Result Areas . UK Lloyd's Syndicate and portfolio manager reporting. Prepare timely and accurate monthly investment accounting records in CODA - general ledger and produce Management Information thereon. Understand exchange difference impact on company results. Ensure controls are robust and weaknesses identified. Relationship management with outsourced providers. Hands-on management of the outsourced fund accountants, conduct meetings with them and assist them to resolve queries. Their queries may be on which nominal account they should use to post certain items. This requires strong oral and written communication and tenacity. Other MS Amlin Group of companies. All MS Amlin group of companies' investment into the investment SPVs is reconciled by the central investment accounting team. Japan reporting. Production of timely and accurate reporting of investment-related notes for inclusion in the MS&AD Group interim and annual accounts, and regulatory returns. This involves extensive reconciliations in a time pressured environment. Quality assurance. Attention to detail is paramount, the investment accountant should check their own work prior to submitting it for review. Take personal responsibility for all outputs to a high quality so that management can rely on the quality of the work and reduce the level of review. Technical knowledge. Good understanding of investment types and their accounting and reporting. To remain up to date with technical and regulatory accounting changes and research the impact on MS Amlin with recommendation for changes as appropriate. To be able to implement technical requirements consistently, in a timely fashion and in accordance with defined interpretations. Project. Capable of identifying process efficiencies in day to day work, implement changes to achieve improvement within the UK team and across the MS Amlin group of companies. This would involve strong oral and written skills to make enquiries with the relevant parties, research into the subject. Having established the facts, they would need to put their case forward with change proposal. Audit. To provide necessary evidence to auditors and help smooth the audit process. Stakeholder management. The role holder has a responsibility to build strong relationship with all the customers (Japan shareholder liaison manager, Group Finance Operations, UK Syndicate team, MS Amlin entities, Group Investment Operations, Group Tax), and suppliers (Syndicate 2001, Group Investment Operations, Group Treasury).
