Job Description

MagicLab is seeking a Legal Counsel with a strong commercial background to handle a range of fast moving, tech-focused matters both in the UK and internationally. This position is a fixed term contract for maternity cover for 9-12 months ideally commencing in mid-late August 2020. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the applicant will enjoy an extremely broad role across MagicLab's entire product portfolio. This role would suit a commercial lawyer looking to branch out in-house in a more business-centred role, and work within a small and dynamic team. Data protection experience is also required. Duties & Responsibilities: * Provide effective, reliable and user-friendly advice on legal issues and risks * Advise on, draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts (including ad serving contracts, billing agreements, marketing agreements, software licence agreements, IT service agreements, recruitment agency contracts) * Assist in the international expansion of MagicLab by supporting the establishment of newly opened offices abroad and the integration of new entities, products and product features * Advise the business on data protection risks and work with the Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance across the business * Ensure company policies and the group's website T&Cs and privacy policy are kept up to date * Manage disputes with support from external counsel * Deliver legal training to other areas of the business * Manage external counsel as required * Become a trusted adviser to business leaders Experience and Qualifications: * 2:1 BA/BS/LLB degree or equivalent * Qualified solicitor in England & Wales * 4+ years PQE and good private practice training and experience within a commercial team * Knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts and experience of advising on data protection, IP and liability issues * Superior communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to adapt communication style to suit a particular situation * Strong drafting skills * Experience in a commercial setting (in-house /client secondment) Personal attributes and other requirements: * Ability to work autonomously and desire to take ownership of projects * Ability to deliver a high standard of work under time constraints * Resilient and comfortable interacting with senior management, and ability to provide advice confidently and effectively * Excellent analytical, organisational and leadership skills * Keen interest in the tech industry
