About HM Treasury The Treasury is the United Kingdom's economics and finance ministry. It is responsible for formulating and implementing the government's financial and economic policy. About the Group Ministerial and Communications The Ministerial and Communications Group sits at the heart of the Treasury. It provides support to Ministers, through the Ministerial offices; it acts as the external face of the Treasury, through the Press Office and Communications teams; and it is responsible for the management of the department, through its support for the Permanent Secretary, the Treasury Board and the Executive Management Board (EMB), and its ownership of Treasury governance structures. The Group is led by the Permanent Secretary. About the Team The Communications Team is responsible for all communications conducted by HM Treasury and its Ministers. We work closely with Ministers, special advisers and teams to help inform, promote and defend HMT policies and the government's economic plan through traditional and new media channels. The team is high-performing, supportive and fun. We work highly collaboratively across the different aspects of communications (press, internal, strategy, digital & events). The post-holder will need to be willing to work flexibly across priorities. Key accountabilities This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the busiest and most high profile communications teams in Whitehall. The post holder will play an integral part in shaping the departments communication strategy, providing advice and support to drive an insight-led approach and guide the delivery of high quality communications. Working with a small but effective team, they will play a key part in designing and delivering a programme of research, data analysis and insight (including polling and focus groups) to provide a detailed understanding of HM Treasury's audiences as well as evaluating the impact of our communications. The post holder will be passionate about understanding audiences, learning new skills, driving innovation and using evidence to deliver excellence in communications. Reporting to the Head of the Communications Strategy Unit, the post holder should have: 1. Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to make sense of a range of data sources, drawing out actionable insights and trends which inform communications strategy and tactics. 2. The ability to communicate complex issues clearly, both in person and in writing. The postholder will analyse and present data to senior colleagues, including ministers and special advisers to enable them to make decisions based on the best possible advice. 3. The role requires excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines. 5. The confidence to be proactive, work on own initiative and quickly grasp complex issues. 6. The ability to work collaboratively in a team. Driving innovation across the communications team, ensuring our approach embraces the latest developments in digital technology, by keeping up to date on innovation and best practice across Government and the wider industry. This post is available on a full time, part time or job share basis, and flexible working hours can be accommodated.
