The Lancet was founded in 1823 by Thomas Wakley as an independent, international weekly general medical journal. Over time, The Lancet has evolved into a family of journals, retaining at its core the belief that medicine must serve society, that knowledge must transform society, and that the best science must lead to better lives. We are looking for an enthusiastic Marketing Manager to join The Lancet's growing marketing team at an exciting and pivotal time. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, the Marketing Manager will oversee all aspects of planning our exhibits at external scientific conferences where we directly engage with authors, reviewers, readers, and other audiences. We aim to maximize our brand engagement and customer experiences at these B2C events. The successful candidate will need to work closely with multiple stakeholders, particularly Lancet Marketing & Communications, Editorial, and Production teams, Elsevier's Global Exhibitions teams, and third party vendors. This role requires an eye for accuracy and commitment to quality control, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and experience with developing creative ideas to increase customer experience and engagement. Day-to-day responsibilities include: Managing Exhibits and Related Activities Lancet journals annually exhibit at a select list of small- and large-scale scientific conferences globally. Successful events require brand compliance; planning, scheduling, reporting; managing vendor relationships; procuring branded materials and other exhibit kit; maintaining budget; communicating and closely collaborating with multiple internal stakeholders; considering customer relations activities; and, implementing customer-facing digital activities to generate and nurture leads. Travel to some international conferences will be required. Supporting Key Sponsorship Agreements A smaller portion of time will be spent supporting a limited number of event sponsorship agreements with key partners and third parties requiring timely communication, procurement, relationship management, brand compliance, and provision of artwork. Developing Exhibition Best Practices The Marketing Manager is expected to possess a mindset open to experimentation, optimization, measurement, and change. The success of our exhibits program requires ongoing development of best practices, including a need to track and report on performance, monitor the return on investment, drive for efficiencies, and recommend adoption of new processes and ideas. Internal stakeholder engagement is key and will be done in collaboration with the Marketing team and others as needed. Oversight of Marketing Templates Working closely with colleagues in Lancet Marketing, the Marketing Manager will need to maintain marketing templates and collateral (eg, advertisements, brochures, postcards, fliers, posters, and additional as required) to ensure compliance with brand guidelines and a consistent experience for customers. You must have an eye for detail and care about quality control. Additional coordination with designers, print buyers, procurement, accounts payable, and other parties is essential. Requirements for candidates: * 2-4 years of relevant marketing experience, preferably in academic publishing or an adjacent industry * Undergraduate degree; relevant degree or additional professional marketing qualification preferred * Experience working in matrix organizations is useful, with proven ability to adapt to change * Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, multitask, and work to deadline * Thorough understanding of exhibits * Proven track record with implementing successful marketing campaigns * Appreciation for the importance of brand compliance * Familiarity with marketing automation tools (eg, HubSpot) * Ability to self-start, put customers at the heart of their work, and drive for results * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to influence and negotiate * Creative, forward-thinking, intellectually curious, and interested in world events * Fluent in spoken and written English * Proficiency using Microsoft Office * Some international travel Elsevier is an equal opportunity employer: qualified applicants are considered for and treated during employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship status, disability status, protected veteran status, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
