LIBRARY ASSISTANT (Part Time hours Mon- Thurs, occasional weekend work) X2 Roles London The QA Business School provides a range of Business, Management and IT career focused programmes, ranging from Level 3 to Level 7 where students can choose to study at one of our city centre campuses in either London or Birmingham. The purpose built campuses provide state of the art facilities and our team of academic teaching and support staff have a real passion for all aspects of learning and development. The Role Dealing with library enquiries in person, by phone and email Responsible for stock circulation, incl. issuing and returning loans, processing reservations and late return payments Shelving and tidying stock on open access, maintaining the library environment conducive to learning Supporting students in using PCs, MFDs and other applicable technologies Assisting students with their learning needs Participation in the library programme of orientation and information skills training for users Participation in and carrying out various library projects Assisting with stock ordering and processing Providing occasional cover at other campuses and sites as required by the needs of the Service Carrying out any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post. Main Responsibilities Ensuring library users receive outstanding support; their enquiries are answered in a timely and competent manner or - if necessary - referred to the Librarian Maintaining the safe and conducive to learning environment Ensuring the relevant policies and processes are followed and projects supported to deliver the highest quality library service Ensuring library stock is ordered, processed and managed efficiently Developing strong relationships with colleagues internally. Skills & Experience Required A degree Successful experience of working in a customer-facing role Ability to meet the needs of learners from a wide range of backgrounds Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex information Good IT skills (office applications and email) Proven interest in developments in the field of library and information work Personal aptitudes Proven ability to work independently whilst recognising when support and guidance are appropriate Proven ability to take responsibility and demonstrate initiative Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to be assertive whilst remaining sensitive to staff and students from a variety of backgrounds Well-organised and methodical, able to work accurately with speed Focused on delivering and promoting outstanding customer service.
