Job Description

Purpose This is a dynamic and varied role in a supportive and friendly global team. It involves engaging directly with the Practice daily, as trusted advisor, on issues relating to Financial Crime (" FC ") risks, including: * Managing ad hoc FC, sanctions and reputational risk issues. * Developing and managing the systems, processes and procedures in place for FC compliance including those processes carried out by the Business Acceptance Team (" BAT "). * Supporting relationships with various jurisdictions' regulators on FC issues. Supporting Risk Partners across Linklaters' network in their office's own compliance with local FC laws and regulations. * Managing the firm's reporting requirements and ensuring that relevant personnel including partners and fee earners comply with their legal obligations to make reports to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (" MLRO "), National Crime Agency (" NCA ") and the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (" OFSI "). * Contributing to the promotion of a risk management culture throughout the firm - and, working closely with partners, senior management and other members of the firm to ensure that the firm manages its FC risks appropriately. Key responsibilities and challenges Advise the firm on FC related Legislation and Procedures Provide ad hoc advice on a day to day basis on FC risks to the Practice, the BAT, other Business Teams (e.g. Finance) and the firm's MLRO. This role regularly includes receiving enquiries and providing advice outside of core hours (including public holidays) to ensure responsiveness to issues as they arise globally. Development & Management of the firm's global Anti-Money Laundering and Risk Assessment Systems and Controls * Participate in the development and management of the firm's global anti-money laundering and risk assessment systems and controls to ensure compliance with laws globally. * Support members of the BAT in all FC aspects of new business clearance. * Support Risk Partners globally on compliance with FC laws in their jurisdictions. * Manage relationships with external service providers including evaluating products in the market. * Advise on and manage submission of reports to the firm's MLRO and the NCA in respect of the London office. * Provide support to MLROs (or equivalent) in other Linklaters offices vis a vis their reporting obligations and relationships with relevant regulators. * Provide support to the Tax & Partnership team around billing and tax issues. Manage the firm's Sanctions compliance * Evaluate and advise on regulatory and sanctions risks presented by the firm's new business. * Provide advice to the firm on sanctions issues. * Stay abreast of international sanctions developments affecting Linklaters' business. * Participate in the management and development of systems, procedures and internal knowledge resources in relation to sanctions. * Advise on and manage submission of reports to OFSI. Reputational Risk * Evaluate and advise on the reputational risk issues presented by new clients and matters, e.g. higher risk jurisdictions, opaque ownership, source and flow of funds, allegations of criminal conduct relating to shareholders or beneficial owners etc. * Liaise with specialist information providers including the commissioning of investigative reports. * Participate in the continuing development and management of the firm's global reputational risk processes. Training, Communication & KnowHow * Manage a global training programme on FC risks, including delivering training to legal and business teams * Contribute to the development of KnowHow and good working practices Support the documentation of the firm's client and banking relationships * Advice on the use and content of engagement letters, terms of business and outside counsel guidelines. * Liaising with the firm's Treasure team and relationship banks on FC issues. Team Development * Support and assist in the general development and management of more junior members of the wider Legal & Risk team including through mentoring and sponsorship programmes. Participate in City-based intra-firm working groups * Take an active role in intra-firm working groups on the interpretation of FC regulations and best practice. Strategy * Support the firm in implanting its strategy, as required and working with the wider Business Teams in delivering projects from time to time Characteristics, Skills & Experience required: Location London Character Confident, quick learner, approachable, intelligent, hard-working, robust, diplomatic, able to command respect and influence others. Education / Qualification Graduate - minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent qualification); Qualified practicing lawyer with at least 4 years' PQE at Linklaters or another international firm.
