The VP of Software Engineering: Big Data & Data Science Platforms provides the data engineering and operations strategy that underpins the digital transformation at S&P Global Platts and enables our analytical teams to migrate from legacy analytical tools to a next generation Data Science Platform. As a key Leader of the Technology Organization, the VP of Software Engineering: Big Data & Data Science Platforms will lead the execution of the Big Data & Data Science Strategy leveraging a portfolio of teams and programs that include software engineering, data engineering, data operations, data architecture and governance, and enterprise ontology. The VP of Software Engineering: Big Data & Data Science Platforms must be a champion for change and culture, drive innovation everywhere in the organization, foster Agile principles and be a leader who creates an environment that motivates a bright and technically diverse engineering organization.Ultimately, the VP of Software Engineering: Big Data & Data Science Platforms is responsible to execute Platts' technology vision by building and delivering our next generation platforms with a team of well over 110 technologists around the globe. The ideal candidate should be deeply technical and have worked with successful product or content companies. Individual will also be required to have extensive management expertise to lead and inspire focused teams to deliver software and insights using a globally distributed, cross-functional (Architecture, Software Engineering, Test Engineering, and DevOps) organization. As VP of Engineering: Big Data & Data Science Platforms you will be responsible for the software development and maintenance of the following: Data Platform: Ownership of the Data Platform and continue the build of a multi-tenant data platform that intelligently links all of Platts dataset internally and with the broader S&P Global via an API strategy. Data Operations: Control all Data management activities using a talented, globally dispersed Data Ops teams. Data cleaning, linking, transformation, ETL, and other data processing activities. Data Architecture & Governance: Maintenance of the current data architecture and governance while moving to next generation practices. Ares of responsibility include: data architecture and data governance. Enterprise Ontology: Advance our data linking and reference data strategy. Advance our next-gen enterprise ontology, master data management, reference data management and data linking components. Decision Support Systems: Maintain and upgrade one of our key Decision support systems - Our Vessel and Cargo tracking software. Develop an architecture in which this legacy system can become a web-scale analytics application used by thousands of users. Data Ingestion Platform: Maintenance of current data ingestion software development and building the next generation data ingestion platform leveraging AWS cloud based technology like S3, Kinesis, Lambda, Glue, Neptune, Athena, Kafka and etc... Data Science Platform: New build: The next generation multi-tenant Data Science Platform and partner with our analysts and legacy analytics application teams to migrate onto the new Platform. You will also be responsible for the SDLC, technical design, development, QA, build systems, software deployment and AWS operations. This position will require leading an agile program while maintaining the daily operations as the organization is transformed into a digital platform company. Requires expert insight into the technical complexity of key components and must provide technical guidance to software engineering managers, architects, AWS, product management and other non-technical team members. Partner, collaborating and aligning with Product Management, Content Operations, Analytics Operations and customer-facing peers will be a key in identifying what needs to develop so we are always delivering value to our customers. As a strategic partner with the business and CTO this position will lead the creation of a multi-year roadmap of how technology enables the business and drives value and efficiency at the same time. In addition to software engineering, data engineering & governance, this position will require managing and building off-shore teams.
