Job Description

We are looking to appoint a new colleague to join an exciting dynamic team as a middle grade specialty doctor. The post holder must have the experience to be able to undertake General Paediatric and Neonatal clinical work at middle grade tier. Children's Services across South Warwickshire are provided by the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust also provides Community Children's services in North Warwickshire. The Trust serves a population of approximately 280,000 in South Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. The Trust is an associate teaching hospital of the Warwick Medical School and Buckingham Medical School. There are good working links for all specialist services at tertiary units in Birmingham, Leicester and Oxford. The Acute services are located at the Warwick Hospital site. Warwick Hospital has seen significant developments in the last five years. A new Paediatric Unit was opened in early 2008 providing 18 in patient Paediatric beds, with 6 cubicles, 1 High Dependency Bed and an adjacent outpatient area for children. We also have a Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit with 11 funded cots within the maternity department. A Midwifery Led Unit which opened 2nd July 2018 and there are plans afoot for improvement of the SCBU facilities, as well as development of a Paediatric Assessment Unit. There are 9 WTE Acute Consultant Paediatricians, 9 Middle Grades (6 Acute specialty doctors, 2 ST4s - Acute and Community and 1 Educational teaching Fellow), 8 ST1 - ST3 (4 GPVTS, 2 Hospital based and 2 Community based Paediatric Trainees). The Paediatric Department is within the Emergency Services Directorate. There is active undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the department, with 8 medical students being attached to the Paediatric Unit at any one time. These are mature students from Warwick Medical School. The Medical School has been supported by significant capital investment on the Warwick Hospital site, including a new education building, which houses the medical library facility. The University of Warwick has a number of international research groups and are very keen to foster clinical research. Full registration with the GMC is essential.
