ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking an experienced senior statistical consultantto join our team. You will play a critical role in driving our data business and creating sustainable customer relationships. Working on innovative data projects, you'll immerse yourself in gathering and analysing data and suggesting ground-breaking solutions to critical customer issues. You'll be blending the use of mathematical techniques, analytics and our core library of transport analysis algorithms, with a view to developing new ideas for clients into sustainable business opportunities. Key responsibilities will include: * Winning business - leading on strategic pursuits and taking the role of Bid Director on tenders. * Leading project delivery - major commissions for strategic clients acting as Project Director or Technical Advisor. * Ownership of projects from end to end: developing customer requirements, developing and agreeing costed research plans, ensuring data acquisition, investigating raw data, delivering robust analysis, building tests and completing reports. * Designing models with a clear path from hypothesis to prototyping to product * Conducting advanced data analysis * Applying advanced statistical and predictive modelling techniques to problems within transport, energy and enterprise sectors * Researching, designing and implementing algorithms to offer new functionality to our library * Modelling specific aspects of networks such as shortest-paths, capacity models and equilibrium effects * Understanding and communicating cutting-edge research in transportation-related fields * Developing processes and programs to make complex analysis repeatable and scalable * Developing processes to ensure data quality and validity * Understanding performance bottlenecks and improving algorithm performance ABOUT YOU You're a highly experienced data consultancy professional able to apply excellent knowledge of a range of statistical principles and techniques to deliver client objectives. You are a highly effective communicator able to accurately interpret and communicate complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences. Complicated mathematics comes naturally to you, and you're completely comfortable working with vast data sets. Equally you're happy to use a simple solution if that's the right way to approach a problem and not get excited by complexity for its own sake. With an inquisitive nature and sharp analytical skills, you'll be a natural at using data to question, challenge, solve problems and tell stories beyond just pointing to the numbers. You're comfortable winning new work, have established client relationships and extensive experience providing technical leadership as a primary client contact. KEY REQUIREMENTS Technical Knowledge: * Experience with geo-spatial data * Degree, MSc or PhD in mathematics, statistics, computer science or other quantitative field * At least 3 years demonstrable commercial experience * Ability to clearly articulate the steps required to solve complex customer challenges * Experience in analysing large data sets using Python, JavaScript, SQL or similar * Demonstrable experience solving complex customer problems using a range of techniques * Demonstrable experience conducting research and clearly evaluating the best approaches for the task at hand * Comfortable programming in at least one language (Python, JavaScript, etc.) * Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to quality * Knowledge of software engineering practices such as version control and continuous integration Partnership and Business Development: * Experience developing long-term strategic partnerships with clients * Experience engaging clients and winning work.
