We find this helps both Pre-Registered Optometrists in their learning experience within the department. Pre-Registration Optometrists are expected to complete 8 Sessions in the department examining patients attending the clinics, mentioned above. They are fully supervised by the Senior Optometrists who are at hand to help with any queries. We like our Pre-Registered Optometrists to be hard working, to take initiative in their work. Our Optometrists (some of which have previously completed their training at Maidstone Hospital) are all very approachable and friendly; we encourage our Pre Registered Optometrists to take on challenging refractions early on and to constantly ask questions that will help increase their knowledge and competence. Each patient examined by the Pre-Reg Optometrists should be discussed with the Supervising Optometrist and then and signed off. Our main focus is learning from each patient experience. As part of your training we are flexible with allowing our Pre-Registered Optometrists to work 1 day per week, at a local Community Opticians in order to gain experience in the community setting. We also encourage the Pre-Registered Optometrists to attend teaching sessions on Friday afternoons and to participate in relevant audits ongoing through the eye department. During the year there are many opportunities to observe the ophthalmology clinics and regular sessions are arranged throughout the year.
