Job Description

Senior Support worker We are a three-bedded residential children's home based in Stoke-On-Trent. Our doors are open for young people aged between 8-17 years of age; these children can present emotional and challenging behaviours. We are looking for passionate, hardworking individuals who can motivate these young people to do and see better through their enthusiasm. We are looking for someone with good communication skills, and someone who priorities the needs of the young people; this role requires a high level of patience and understanding. Further to this, it is crucial that the senior/shift leader is an organised, dedicated individual who can work in an effective way. We are looking for someone who takes the initiative to work well independently as well as working well with other members of staff/young people. As a senior support worker/shift leader, your duties will require you to provide a caring home environment in which the needs of the young people can be addressed in an appropriate manner. We also are looking for someone who can effectively communicate with these young people, and encourage independent living/skills, as well as support them in ways which motivate them to reach their full potential. In addition to encouraging independent skills, senior/shift leaders must aid young people with life skills and general home skills such as cooking and cleaning. We also expect senior/shift leaders to ensure that young people are safeguarded at all times within a residential setting. Other duties will include: * Encouraging and supporting a lifestyle which facilitates spiritual, physical, psychological, cultural and social needs of the young person. * Implementing and developing young people's care plans, risk assessments and key working programmes. These care plans must be amended and updated when necessary. * Providing adequate supervision to junior staff members, and having a good working knowledge of NMS and care home regulations. * Providing a needs-led service in line with the statement of purpose * Ensuring that documents such as Ofsted notifications, incident reports etc. are completed and accurate. * Contributing to the development of the team The successful candidate will have experience within a residential care home setting; experience working with children who present challenging behaviours and learning difficulties however, is desired. Candidates must also have a minimum of NVQ level 3 or the new Children's Workforce Diploma. Salary: dependent on experience and qualifications Working hours (shift work): Early, late, sleep in (addition 35 per sleep in). Candidates are required to obtain an enhanced DBS check, and are required to be aged 21 and over.
