Site Reliability Engineer United Kingdom Information Technology (IT) Corporate Center Job Reference #: 188212BR City: London Job Type: Full Time Your role: The Site Reliability Engineer is a hybrid engineering role responsible for all aspects of application production support, deployment and monitoring as well as the development of tools to support these activities. The Site Reliability Engineer has the goal of supporting mission critical applications ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and stability are maintained but crucially, should be designing and building tools and solutions that help to automate as many aspects of support as possible such that manual mundane support activity is reduced or eliminated allowing systems to scale readily without similar linear increases in support overhead. The SRE role requires exceptional development and engineering experience and the ability to apply that knowledge to solve the complex problem of running applications reliably at scale. The Site Reliability Engineer should spend a considerable portion of his or her time developing new tools to solve existing problems in the production environment - where possible these tools should be designed with reuse across the wider organisation in mind. Your team: Evidence Lab is a rapidly growing business division within the Investment Bank. You will be working on the client facing applications in support of this ambitious new Alternative Data platform. Your expertise: Scope: Application Support: - To take responsibility for the running of critical production applications ensuring that SLAs in relation to availability, stability, security and performance are met at all times. Where systems deviate from normal behaviour, to take responsibility for troubleshooting these issues working with Development teams / infrastructure services teams, 3rd parties to resolve issues and restore normal service. Scope: Deployment & Orchestration: To manage the deployment of new versions of software into the production landscape , ensuring appropriate quality stage gates have been met ( QA , Regression , performance testing etc ) To ensure new systems / services deployed can be integrated to existing monitoring and management tools so that the performance of the service and deviations from normal are easily anticipated and instrumented. Scope: Operation and support - Build and enhance tools that instrument the quality of services from the perspective of the end users , allow us to measure easily against defined SLAs , to identify bottlenecks in our systems and that alert us to abnormal behaviours of the platform proactively. Engineer solutions that allow the plant to operate as autonomously as possible (Process orchestration, application instrumentation /alerting). For the above scope: Thought leader growing the culture of Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps at UBS. Communication and advocacy for the value Site reliability engineering as a practice Close partnership with systems developers ensuring sustainable / reusable design patterns supporting efficient production operation. Design, implement and automate processes to defend integrity, security & auditability of SDLC Select, implement & introduce best in class technologies & practices to keep SDLC optimal and current Deep understanding of the challenges of maintaining and running complex mission critical, client facing platforms. Willingness to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas that will remove or reduce manual effort in relation to operating large production systems at scale.
