The communication constraints we face mean that our Product needs to work even harder so our brands can meet consumers' expectations. Furthermore, the regulatory environment has evolved to take us from the era of 'above the line' advertising and a dependence on aspirational lifestyle imagery, to the era of product differentiation through innovation. Regulation is now also impacting our available parameters for brand development and innovation, leading Product into the centre of our marketing mix going forward. This means we will no longer be able to rely on the currently established model and that our future Product Development effort will therefore require a perfect balance across blending, cigarette design and process / technology. The right configuration of these three will allow us to sustain the delivery of superior products and the leadership of emerging consumer spaces. Above market Product Development interacts with the regional and global teams to ensure alignment of the product portfolio to business strategies. Central Product development teams, including Product Developer for Capsules, are the global owners of product design standards and qualification processes ensuring that, all future product designs meet with strict design and performance standards. This is combined with strong consumer insights which ensure developments meet the key consumer requirements and have a high confidence of market success. Job purpose To direct and deliver technical projects or workstreams in supporting the BAT's capsule portfolio. Principal accountabilities * Responsible for the management and delivery of the formal capsule qualification process across all three regions. * Responsible for ensuring compliance of the capsules and is the key point of contact to Product Stewardship and Consumer Product Safety. * Manage the technical collaboration & partnership with BAT's global capsule suppliers. * Support the delivery of the novel capsule development and compliance process in conjunction with all capsule developments for the group. * Support the Senior Product Developer - Capsules, in providing subject matter expertise to the Defined Regional Business Units (DRBU's) on all technical capsule product related matters. * Support the definition of performance specifications for all BAT capsules. * Global governance for capsule grade management in OneSAP (TaO) system. * Ownership of Capsule Toolkit and cascade of strategic capsule information to BAT Group. * Provide technical guidance and support to Global Quality function for all capsule product quality and testing related requirements. Leadership * Support the business growth agenda through the development of superior quality products and relevant innovations to meet consumer expectations in line with the Global Product and Brand strategies. * Support the delivery of the Novel Capsule development strategy to IBG Product, RPC's, IBG & Marketing in general. * Ensure all capsule developments comply with Product Stewardship guidelines and recommendations for use in capsule products. * Provide inputs to the DRBU's and global functions supporting communication to the end market on capsule related initiatives. * Ensure end market product maintenance and compliance with BAT Group Standards and regulatory requirements. * Support end market product quality improvements from the holistic consumer experience through measurement indexes. * Support the dissemination of Capsule Product knowledge throughout BAT by providing appropriate support to the development and delivery of learning interventions. Skills & Experience * The job holder will be a Product professional with experience in key aspects of Global Materials, Product Development and Quality. Essential background will include: * Degree level in a scientific discipline * Experience in Product (or similar technical function) which includes materials, filter design, product development as well as manufacturing processes and procedures * Strong experience in tobacco business of which 3 years should be within a technical function * Understanding of supply chain considerations with respect to consumer quality perception. * Sound understanding of BAT's OneSAP system and governance processes. * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to influence key stakeholders and external suppliers and capable of conveying complex technical requirements across the organisation. * Delivery of technical training courses sharing knowledge and global standards across BAT business.
