BenevolentAI BenevolentAI, founded in 2013, creates and applies AI technologies to transform the way medicines are discovered and developed. BenevolentAI seeks to improve patients lives by applying technology designed to generate better data decision making and in doing so lower drug development costs, decrease failure rates and increase the speed at which medicines are generated. The company has developed the Benevolent Platform - a discovery platform used by BenevolentAI scientists to find new ways to treat disease and personalise drugs to patients. BenevolentAI is HQd in London with a research facility in Cambridge (UK) and further offices in New York. BenevolentAI has active R&D drug programs from discovery to Phase II in disease areas such as ALS, Atopic Dermatitis, Ulcerative Colitis and Cancer. The role We are looking for a VP Precision Medicine to join the Drug Discovery Team to help define and implement the Precision Medicine R&D vision. You will join a successful and growing team, comprised of translational medicine scientists, informatic data scientists and drug discoverers. Candidates applying for this role will be expected to define, drive and implement key strategic initiatives concerning the usage and analysis of patient-level clinical and omics data sets for drug target identification and patient stratification. This role will require individuals to work at the interface of technology and life sciences in a fast-paced environment. Primary responsibilities * Providing scientific leadership for the Precision Medicine product area within BenevolentAI, anchoring the work of the team in translational science * Further develop and implement the Precision Medicine Scientific Strategy that is directly enabling BenevolentAI to realise its Precision Medicine ambitions * Strengthen and establish synergistic connections with other product areas in the wider BenevolentAI platform * Establish new, and support existing, industry and academic collaborations Were looking for someone with... * Innovative ways to disrupt the drug discovery process * Precedence for making data-driven decisions * A keen interest in using patient data to answer translatable scientific questions * Intellectual courage which enables collaboration with experts in fields other than your own * Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all levels and across departments Qualifications and Experience * A PhD in biology, biomedical informatics, epidemiology or a related field of research. We would also be interested to hear from individuals with clinical backgrounds, who have developed and applied relevant translational science skills in an industry setting * 8+ years experience of drug discovery or development, or translational science in an industry setting, although academic experience with a strong exposure to industrial collaboration can also be considered * Experience in line managing small to medium size scientific teams focused on enabling drug discovery activities or other highly related fields * Guided multidisciplinary teams (both scientific and technical) to deliver on projects, whilst managing the expectations of internal and external stakeholders. * Highly experienced in at least one of the following domains: * Handling, analysing and interpreting findings from patient-level clinical data, including at least one of: observational cohorts, clinical trials or real-world and electronic health records data. * Population-based genetic discovery for complex traits (e.g. GWAS, PheWAS), and its application to disease outcomes, survival and quantitative traits. * Analysing and interpreting other large-scale omics datasets, including genome-wide transcriptomics. * Familiarity with common bioinformatics approaches and result interpretation e.g. sequence similarity, gene set enrichment, network inferencing * A strong publication record with multiple first author papers in high impact journals * A strong external network of contacts across industry and academia to engage in ideas and knowledge share Nice to have but optional * Awareness of tech-enabled advancements, e.g. machine learning, that have the potential to revolutionise the application of Precision Medicine research * Familiarity working in an product-focused agile development environment * Familiarity with clinical development and trial design * Familiarity with biomarker discovery and development Who are we?
