Trauma Informed Approaches Locality Lead (Adult Mental Health)
Overview
Job Description
Crisis and Intensive Home Treatment Services in Durham and Darlington have been going through a period of intense transformation, to try to improve the service offer to people in period of intense distress or extreme states across the county. Transformation thus far has included a restructure of the team, investment in staffing, a movement towards psychologically-informed work and relocating to a hub and spoke model to improve flexibility. Alongside these local changes, TEWV is moving towards a trauma informed approach to service delivery across the organisation and is working towards local innovation in trauma informed care. Following a successful bid to NHS England, an opportunity has arisen for a Trauma Informed Approaches Locality Lead to work within the crisis and intensive home treatment service in Durham and Darlington, to support the whole team transformation towards working in a trauma informed way. This role presents a significant and exciting challenge to lead change in infrastructure, learning and practices, enabling relational approaches that will transform a highly pressured and challenging service. The team and colleagues in leadership, having already gone through a significant process of change, will require a skilled and compassionate leader to move that change forward positively into a new era of service delivery. An authentic leader, and highly skilled and knowledgeable in trauma informed approaches, the Trauma Informed Approaches Locality Lead will bring to the post their own experiences of mental health challenges and a collective advocacy position to share their understanding of how trauma informed approaches can improve the experiences of people who receive Crisis care. The postholder will model relational approaches in their work, 'walking the walk' of trauma informed care in a complex system and working closely with their colleagues and service users to ensure this new way of working is integrated into the teams in a safe and phased way for everyone. As part of long term plan for mental health services, the postholder should also expect to work closely with partnership, community and voluntary organisations/groups, to ensure that alternative approaches to 'crisis' are understood, networked and accessible by service users, under the Right Care Right Place community transformation process. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled leader with a commitment to trauma informed approaches to work full time in a highly pressured service, where paying attention to the impact of trauma and adversity on human experience could make great improvements to service delivery. We invite applications from widely diverse applicants with experience of this level of leadership or similar work, and would welcome early conversations with potential applicants who may find their routes into this work 'unusual' or not in keeping with standard academic pathways into employment. We are committed to being creative about getting the right person for the role, rather than the right CV (which is not always the same). Lived experience of 'relevant mental health challenges' is an occupational requirement for this role, and we are happy to discuss what this might mean with potential applicants. We would welcome early conversations about the challenges of working in an acute or urgent service with similar life experiences with any applicant who may have concerns or questions.
