Job Description

We are seeking a Telephonist to join our 24/7 Switchboard in operating a modern telephone system. You will join our enthusiastic and friendly team of Telephonist's to assist in the smooth running of the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust's 24/7 Switchboard providing a high quality and responsive Telecommunications service for Patients, Customers and Staff. NHS experience and operating a busy multi line switchboard is desirable for this post. You must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work both as part of a team and unsupervised on lone shifts. Flexibility is essential as you will also be required to cover the absence of colleagues both during planned and unplanned leave. Duties include operating the Trusts' central switchboard handling both internal and external calls in a prompt, courteous and professional manner. Dealing with Emergency calls, the programming and logging of pagers within the Trust. Assist in the maintenance of both clinical and non-clinical on call rotas and the Telecommunications database. Report alarms sounding from various departments throughout the Trust including external sites to the relevant personnel. The Telecommunications department provides full and extensive training and your work will be supervised until your competencies are completed. Working hours are flexible and will follow a fortnightly pattern which may include days, evenings and weekend shifts.
