Upstream Cell Culture Investigator
Overview
Job Description
BioPharm Process Research (BPR) is an early process development function responsible for accelerating biopharmaceutical assets into clinical manufacture by linking drug discovery and product development. As part of this wider group the Upstream Process Research group is responsible for cell line selection, the development of bioreactor production processes and their subsequent transfer to GSK's large-scale clinical manufacturing facilities in the US and to other external partners to support the progression of GSK's innovative early stage Biopharm portfolio which includes monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies and recombinant proteins. Our recent investment in automated upstream and cell line development processes, combined with cutting edge analytical techniques and advanced data analysis is enabling us to better understand our platform processes and increase our metabolic and biochemical knowledge of our cell lines. We are now looking to leverage these enhanced datasets to drive better cell line selection by linking cell line biology to subsequent process performance. You will be a highly motivated and experienced 'hands on' bioprocess engineer who will link cell line selection to performance at manufacturing scale by working closely with our cell line development, disruptive technology and manufacturing groups to develop effective scale down models to enhance cell line selection to support our End to End Biopharm capability and Single Cycle Development Key responsibilities: * Link cell line performance at ambr15 scale to manufacturing scale bioreactor performance by developing models to enhance the scalability of our bioreactor systems * Use cross-scale metabolic, biochemical, spectral and engineering data to enhance process transfer by connecting ambr15 and manufacturing scale performance * Leverage manufacturing scale data to deliver a better understanding of our cell lines to enhance 'right first time' cell line selection * Deliver our OneStream vision to facilitate Tech Transfer by proposing and leading focused experimental work packages to enhance cell line selection and cell line performance in our platform processes. * Contribute to our End to End Biopharma vision through collaboration with our wider drug discovery and process groups to leverage cell biology information for improved process performance. * Contribute to wider automation, data analysis and bioinformatic work packages within BPR to support our End to End Biopharma capability. Basic Qualifications * PhD in Biochemical engineering, Bioprocess Science or Biochemistry * Extensive practical experience of mammalian cell culture at bench and bioreactor scale * Track record of design, execution and analysis of work packages to improve CHO cell performance through data driven cross-scale modelling * Ability to proactively contribute to team performance and process improvement in a climate of scientific rigor across multiple CHO process science groups * Effective communication skills Preferred Qualifications * Knowledge of, and ability to apply, experimental design and data analysis principles to derive quality results in a timely fashion * Proven experience of evaluation and implementation of appropriate new ideas and technologies * Ability to apply innovative solutions to process development problems * Understanding of cell line selection and process development in an industrial setting and the ability to proactively contribute to data driven continuous process improvement As a company driven by our values of Patient focus, Transparency, Respect and Integrity, we know inclusion and diversity are essential for us to be able to succeed. We want all our colleagues to thrive at GSK bringing their unique experiences, ensuring they feel good and to keep growing their careers. As a candidate for a role, we want you to feel the same way.
