Junior Chemometrician (Process Modelling)
Overview
Job Description
Junior Chemometrician (Process Modelling) GSK is currently developing our next generation manufacturing platforms for drug substance and drug products to support our novel medicines in development. As a result of these efforts, we are seeking a junior chemometrician to contribute to the modeling of the associated process data types to develop innovative methods for process understanding, monitoring and control Together with your colleagues you will set direction and develop models aiming at accelerating the development of new processes, increase their quality and reduce manufacturing and development costs. You will work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team and get support from a wide range of experts (engineers, chemists, formulators and other modelers). The position is with the Process Analytics group in the UK that sits within GSK's Research and Development (R&D) global division. The group is instrumental in helping the business to deliver its clinical trial strategy by providing technical modelling guidance to study teams and configuring fit for purpose clinical studies. Key responsibilities for the role will include: * Develop and implement chemometric models from process time series data (parameters/sensors/ spectroscopy etc.) to enhance the understanding, monitoring, control and overall robustness of new processes. * Develop and implement chemometric models from materials and process data relevant to key projects to increase understanding and greatly reduce labor, materials and time required to identify commercial Drug Substance and Drug Product processes. * Upskill project team members to expand the use of chemometric modeling and work with internal and external experts to develop /maintain core chemometric software platforms. * Support the integration of chemometric modeling with other disciplines (e.g. mechanistic, kinetic, system based, simulation, statistical modeling and machine learning) and platforms (e.g. informatics and automation) to maximise opportunities to accelerate the portfolio and enhance process robustness. * Champion the integration of new ways of working into existing Quality by Design work flows (e.g. Process Design, Control Strategy Identification, Risk Assessment), regulatory filing strategies and life cycle planning. About You: We are looking for a motivated, Chemometrician professional to join our team. This role would suit a self-motivated individual who is looking for a challenging working environment. Strong people skills and an ability to drive performance is desirable. You will have a problem-solving mindset and willingness to work in an agile environment, having steadfast focus on patients and delivering to GSK portfolio. PLEASE NOTE: We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience / qualifications in the following areas: * MSc Chemometrics, Industrial Engineering or a related subject with emphasis on data analytics and process modeling. * Mastery of mainstream chemometric techniques (multivariate classification, calibration, pattern recognition, PCA/PLS) and familiarity with design of experiments concepts and methods. * Some knowledge in the use of advanced chemometric methods for process modeling (MSPC, MCR) and 'data wrangling' for signal processing and feature extraction. * Familiarity with other data driven machine learning methods (SVM, ANN, Bayesian modeling) or the application of hybrid empirical/mechanistic modeling. * Experience using data analytics and modeling tools for chemical and/or biochemical processes. * Industrial experience in one or more of the following areas: i) continuous processes; ii) drug substance development; iii) biopharmaceuticals development; iv) product industrialization and manufacturing. * Programming experience using languages such as Matlab, Python, R or C. * Ability to independently design and execute work plans and experimentation to support models development. * Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. * Familiarity with Quality by Design concepts, their application and ICH Q8/Q9/Q10 guidelines. * An understanding of data and informatics requirements for digital platforms supporting modeling. Applicants are asked to demonstrate in their application how they meet the above criteria in order to be successful for interview selection. CLOSING DATE for application: 30 June 2020 (COB).
