Job Description

How would you like to help someone change their life? The Open University is the UKs largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education. Our research underpins the teaching we deliver to some 200,000 students as the UKs largest university. The Role Associate Lecturers are being recruited for a Stage two science module across the United Kingdom. S206/SXF206 can be part of a diploma or undergraduate degree. Associate lecturers play a vital role in supporting students studying this module through a field day and online tuition. You will help students to engage with the online learning materials, provide written feedback on assignments as well as mentoring and individual support during this 31-week module commencing in October. This is an exciting opportunity to work with your cohort of students and to have a direct impact on the outcomes for individuals. This module spans biology, chemistry, Earth science and physics, drawing them together in a holistic approach to studying the environment. Students investigate air, water, earth, life and cycles and explore the processes, interactions and feedback mechanisms operating within different environments. Practical experiences provided through multimedia interactive virtual field trip activities and either two three-day field schools (for SXF206) or a virtual field trip activity and project work (for S206) allow students to develop skills and apply their learning. By the end, students will be able to make critical analyses of environmental processes and structures, e.g. landforms, soils, water flows and habitats of flora and fauna, and comment on anthropogenic influences and their likely consequences.
